"It is possible to boost diversity and cyber security capabilities as a whole, if organisations are open to adjusting their processes. Part of this is about making the business attractive to diverse candidates in the first place. Those already working in cybersecurity say mentors and role models are key."

Cybersecurity may be the fastest-growing IT role, but gender diversity has dropped since 2021. Despite a 128% increase in roles, the gender gap is still a major challenge. The number of women working in UK cybersecurity has dropped from 23.8% to 17.5% over the past three years. This is a concerning stat highlighting that attracting more #skilled women to the cybersecurity workforce remains a significant challenge. Recent research from LinkedIn's Economic Graph team shares that the cyber security industry continues to be dominated by men. In May 2024, women made up just 17.9% of the industry, while men accounted for 82.1%, due to a combination of cultural, systemic and educational factors. It's time to dismantle the barriers holding women back. Starting with encouraging women to pursue a career in STEM and taking steps to actively tackle unconscious biases in hiring practices and workplace cultures.
