𝐒𝐃𝐆 17 (𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥𝐬): Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 Opportunity remains for the golf industry to collaborate on important issues that impact its many associations, facilities and other constituents. No universal forum or framework currently exists for the 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒕 collaboration of major industry associations regarding the global issues outlined by the UN's sustainable development goals. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧? Golf has a unique leadership opportunity. Since our founding in 2020, Driving the Green has sought to explore and create opportunities for golf to provide net positive and regenerative impacts in the communities where the game lives. We interview experts from a variety of backgrounds across the world to identify financially feasible and sustainable solutions in which golf can invest. Fundamentally, our solution is to combine "smart" with "heart"! We're helping golf lead social equity, economic prosperity and environmental sustainability in the communities where the game lives. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐝𝐨 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭? ❖ Develop community partnerships to discover, implement and manage sustainability initiatives. ❖ Measure and report on the impact of the implemented initiatives and create community best management practices. Then, share these with industry peers! ❖ Embed golf course operations into broader scope climate action plans (city, state, provincial, national, and even international)! GEO's free OnCourse platform is a milestone and easy-to-use framework for leading sustainability in and through the game of golf. While cycling infrastructure is still limited in many #SouthAfrican communities, we firmly believe change is possible with the right policies and investments. As the message from UNESCO highlights, supportive infrastructure and policies are crucial for making bicycles a viable, central mode of transportation. Currently, cyclists in our country often bear the burden of safety due to a lack of dedicated cycling lanes and infrastructure integrated with public transit. However, this should not discourage us. If local governments and institutions are committed to promoting cycling, they must prioritize creating safe, well-designed bicycle routes and protected intersections. Building robust cycling networks sends a powerful message that cyclists belong and enables more people to embrace cycling for transportation, not just leisure. As the Dutch have shown, when cycling becomes ingrained through extensive infrastructure, it transcends being just an activity - it becomes a way of life. While the road ahead has challenges, the long-term benefits of increasing cycling access are immense - reducing emissions, improving health, and enhancing mobility equity. With determination and strategic investments, we can pave the way for South African cities where cycling is as natural as saying, "I'm not a cyclist, I'm just South African." Let's come together to advocate for the institutional changes needed to build the cycling-friendly future our communities deserve. The transformation may take time, but as the saying goes, "Build it well, and they will come." Our vision is achievable if we stay committed.

A must-read interview with Roma Capitale Deputy Mayor Eugenio Patanè, conducted by project partner Eurocities, discusses the Italian capital's vision and commitment to hosting the "2025 Jubilee of Hope," from a privileged perspective of urban mobility. With 35 million pilgrims expected to descend upon Rome in 2025, the city has received €530 million dedicated to mobility from the Italian government. These funds will be divided equally across four clusters:  -Increasing the quality and quantity of public transport; -Promoting sustainability and intermodality; -Advancing active mobility, including cycling, pedestrian infrastructure, and micro-mobility; -Leveraging technological innovation to support sustainability policies. "Upper has been crucial to increasing the modal share as well as the perceived customer satisfaction and will advance in the deployment of zero-emission zones starting from the city center towards the outskirts according to a roadmap. Through this rapid development of public transport and mobility management policies, we’re accelerating decarbonization in our own city. Because it's practical❗ This is the answer given by 50% of people who cycle. For 25% of cyclists, their means of transport has the advantage of being "quick", and another quarter believe that it is inexpensive. Just over 20% say they cycle for environmental reasons. 🚴♂️ Do you think cycling can be a political act? 💥🤯 Until my good friend Michele Argenta said those words, I hadn't considered it. But looking back, it's clear: cycling was my subtle political statement before I even realized it. I started cycling to work simply because there was no public transport to my job in the Italian Alps. What seemed like a practical solution sparked conversations at the local café about what it means to cycle to work in such an up&down hill place (spoiler! Alot of time management and changes of clothes), also got a few colleagues to join in on the #lowemissioncommute - Shoutout to Giorgia Verì and Matteo Mocellin who sometimes joined me up the big hill to work! 🚵♀️ Those hills and km led to a deeper love, not just for cycling, but it became a modality of transport; it became a way to explore the connections between territories. To do the one thing humans will never stop doing - moving around. Just as I value exploring places on my bike, I value my right to choose those who represent me in the European Union.  That’s why as an individual and as Protect Our Winters Italy I support the #RideBikeClimbVote campaign because voting for the #EUelections allows me to support policies that impact my life, other humans, and the places I love. If you live in Italy, go vote on the 8th and 9th of June. I'll be cycling to the polls, but however you get there, make sure you show up and Vote for your future.
