While cycling infrastructure is still limited in many #SouthAfrican communities, we firmly believe change is possible with the right policies and investments. As the message from UNESCO highlights, supportive infrastructure and policies are crucial for making bicycles a viable, central mode of transportation. Currently, cyclists in our country often bear the burden of safety due to a lack of dedicated cycling lanes and infrastructure integrated with public transit. However, this should not discourage us. If local governments and institutions are committed to promoting cycling, they must prioritize creating safe, well-designed bicycle routes and protected intersections. Building robust cycling networks sends a powerful message that cyclists belong and enables more people to embrace cycling for transportation, not just leisure. As the Dutch have shown, when cycling becomes ingrained through extensive infrastructure, it transcends being just an activity - it becomes a way of life. While the road ahead has challenges, the long-term benefits of increasing cycling access are immense - reducing emissions, improving health, and enhancing mobility equity. With determination and strategic investments, we can pave the way for South African cities where cycling is as natural as saying, "I'm not a cyclist, I'm just South African." Let's come together to advocate for the institutional changes needed to build the cycling-friendly future our communities deserve. The transformation may take time, but as the saying goes, "Build it well, and they will come." Our vision is achievable if we stay committed.

The European Cyclists' Federation is focused on 10 measures in 6 different cities within UPPER Project EU These consist of creating multimodal hubs where active modes and public transport meet, developing incentive packages to support multimodality, enabling public transport in peri-urban areas, campaigning for sustainable modes of transport (including public transport and active modes) and, finally, enhancing multimodal interconnections and integration. Millions of pilgrims will make their way to Rome for Jubilee, the Catholic celebration set to take place over 2025. In anticipation of the influx of visitors, Rome is catapulting urban mobility improvements. The city has received €530 million dedicated to mobility from the Italian government to be divided equally across four clusters:  1️⃣ Increasing the quality and quantity of public transport;  2️⃣ Promoting sustainability and intermodality;  3️⃣ Advancing active mobility, including cycling, pedestrian infrastructure, and micromobility;  4️⃣ Leveraging technological innovation to support sustainability policies. World Marathon Challenge: Running for the Planet ! I'm 🚀Sardar A. and I'll undertake the remarkable challenge of completing 7 marathons across 7 continents in just 7 days 🏃♂️🌍 aims to spotlight the urgent need for environmental action. While impressive, the air travel involved raises a question: Does it contradict my eco-conscious goals ? 🤔 Air travel undeniably has a significant carbon footprint. To counteract this, I am dedicated to neutralizing the emissions from my journey by supporting projects focused on reforestation and environmental protection. In 2025, I will embrace this formidable dual challenge with a primary goal: to elevate awareness about the pressing environmental crisis. This journey is more than a test of endurance; it represents a pledge to eco-sustainability. Yet, the question arises: Can one align globe-trotting adventures with environmental stewardship? ✅ Motivate all to stretch their boundaries without forsaking their principles. ✅ Enhance recognition of the environmental impact of athletic travel, while exploring efficient strategies to achieve sports ambitions with minimal ecological footprint. ✅ Generate funding for specific eco-friendly projects in every continent visited.
