Learning, reading, education are not equal journeys for all children for many reasons, including what neurodiversity celebration week has reminded us. I want to send a huge hug and cheer to all children taking any exams this summer. You are all amazing. Exams are so much work, time, effort and take great perseverance to do. To those of you who 'think differently', though, I can't imagine what you are going through. The initial effort to just to find ways to learn and revise are huge, then to wrestle with complex words, to try and hold information in your working memory that just seems to disappear, struggle to decipher small letters on exam pages crammed with information, to wade through a sea of words to solve a maths problem, or just to sit still and concentrate. I know I only touch on what you have to overcome. Your route to success is so complex, tiring and I am sure, sometimes, seem impossible. For you I cheer the loudest. You'll find your way, you will, but this week reminds us all what that must be like for you. https://lnkd.in/eNpx-qxN #neurodiversity #neurodiversityacceptance #celebrateneurodiversity #school #exams #learninganddevelopment #education #children

Spaces still available❗️ Sign up now❗️ On March 19th, as part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, Marius Frank will host a fascinating webinar discussion exploring how we can integrate neurological differences into teaching practices. We have had a fantastic response so far but we are looking to add more people to this online event, to ensure that more people can learn about inclusive classrooms and how they can help students. By appreciating that different students will process information in different ways, our classrooms can be designed to be more inclusive for all. Our panel will explore topics such as: • Creating a psychologically safe teaching environment • Diversifying and adjusting your teaching strategies • Using Assistive Technologies to remove systemic barriers to learning • Classroom and school design and build • Managing bullying or challenging conversations amongst students • Widening the social model of disability to include children disabled by circumstance • Exploring strengths and challenges of neurodifferences • Thinking about inclusive design in education, including the need to challenge the government about the design of the National Curriculum and how children are assessed through the current Examination System (e.g. Is the way We teach and assess the English Curriculum discriminatory?!) • Closing the gap between the classroom and the workplace... for all Marius is a leading figure when it comes to learning about neurodiversity and education, so you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to tune in to hear from him and his panellists. So, follow the link to sign up and we’ll see you on the day! 🔗https://lnkd.in/ep2p9uVH #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek #NeurodiversityWeek #NCW #ThisIsND #Event #PanelDiscussion

When I finished school, all I can remember was feeling bruised and battered. I remember thinking 🤔 in my head that thank god that was over and I never wanted to learn ever again. The thing is, education doesn’t need to be this way. It can be fun, interesting, and enjoyable. But yet we are still seeing students coming out like the people in this picture. At Neurodiversity Academy, this is what we are going to change. We want to find the learning organizations that are fun, interesting, and enjoyable, especially for neurodivergent people. By finding these organizations and referring neurodivergent students to them, we are hoping they will come out as happy if not more enthusiastic than when they started their education journey. #neurodivergent #highereducation #students #mentalhealth

At least 1 in 5 people are neurodivergent. Neurodivergent folx are in every workplace and CE training but are disadvantaged by systems, processes, norms and institutions that were constructed to exclude their way of being. There are a growing number of provisions and resources in K-12 education reaching into higher ed for accommodating neurodivergent learners, but accommodation provides the minimum necessary. It’s not the same as inclusion. It's not the same as belonging. There is a conversation in workforce development right now about the precise skills, divergent thinking and innovative capabilities that reside in so many neurodivergent adults who are under or unemployed because of current systems and norms. There’s a discussion about what it might take to provide workspaces that eliminate barriers and open way to vast untapped potential. And we know for careers to grow, CE must play a role. Presently, there are no guidelines or standards for neuroinclusive PD or continuing education. International Accreditors for Continuing Education & Training (IACET) would like to change that. Following the success of the AI Symposium, IACET has recruited a group that I am thrilled to Chair assembling research on Neuroinclusion that will be presented to the CE/T community and we will gather for a Neuroinclusion Symposium in May 7, 2025 in Memphis. You're going to want to put that date on your calendar! Thank you Randy, Bradley and the IACET team for your leadership in this vital conversation. #inclusiveCE #neuroinclusion #neurodiversity #CE #training #professionaldevelopment
