🩸 Blood cancer and blood disorders can strike anyone, at any time. Recently, the Hamilton Robson team was reminded of this harsh reality when a brilliant and kind colleague was diagnosed with a serious blood disorder. Their life now depends on finding a matching bone marrow donor through organisations like DKMS. 🙏 ⚽️ In support of our colleague and DKMS, the Hamilton Robson team is proudly competing in the Belfast Business 5's football tournament. 🏆 You Can Make a Difference 💪 🗣️ Spread the Word: Share this post and encourage others to get involved. The more people who know about DKMS the better our chances of helping patients in need. 🧬 Join the Registry: If you're between 18-55 and in good health, consider registering as a potential stem cell donor. It's a simple cheek swab that could save a life. 🦸♂️🦸♀️ 💰 Donate: Even a small contribution can have a significant impact. Your donation helps DKMS cover the costs of registering new potential lifesavers and supports crucial research. 🎗️ Donate: https://lnkd.in/eMZTcc_8 ❤️ Together, we can make a difference! ❤️

Help us make a lifesaving impact! The World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA) community volunteer on 50 vital projects geared towards enhancing the chances of patients finding their life-saving match donor and reducing the time it takes for a patient to receive a transplant. Each year, our efforts culminate in over 20,000 stem cell transplants, offering hope and second chances to countless individuals worldwide. However, with only 57 countries worldwide being able to access WMDA's knowledge and support, we believe there's much more we can do to save even more lives. Your support can turn possibilities into realities. By donating to us through GlobalGiving, you can directly contribute to our vision of access to life-saving cellular therapies for all patients. Every donation, no matter the size, has the power to transform lives and bring hope. Our focus for this Little by Little campaign is bringing our community’s knowledge to Africa. In a continent of 54 countries, only 2 have access to WMDA's knowledge and support. In 76 days, our community will be in Cape Town. We want to support as many hematologists, oncologists, cancer charities and sickle cell disease foundations in Africa in attending the conference and beyond. All donations between USD 5 and up to USD 50 will be matched by GlobalGiving at 50% until matching funds run out, or on April 12th at 11:59 pm EDT, whichever comes first. The Little by Little campaign has officially begun so don’t hesitate to donate! https://lnkd.in/e5zbgMk9 Please share so that we can reach more people and increase the chances for all ❤️ #globalgiving #charitablegiving #nonprofitfundraising #socialimpact #accesstohealthcare #makeadifference #bethechange #sharingiscaring

A little bit more than a year ago I joined NMDP as a Bilingual Donor Engagement Specialist. My goal is to connect donors that are part of the registry with patients with cancer once they match. I’m incredibly proud to share that 29 people I’ve spoken with have donated bone marrow or stem cells, offering children and adults battling blood cancer a second chance at life. Their selfless actions bring renewed hope to families and highlight the incredible difference we can make when we choose to help others in their most critical moments. Be the Lifeline Someone Needs: Donate to Save Lives Every three minutes, someone is diagnosed with blood cancer, and for many, a bone marrow transplant is their only hope. Your generous donation can make that lifesaving connection happen. Here’s how your gift can make a direct impact: $150 helps add one potential donor to the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) Registry, giving patients a fighting chance. $200 provides one month of transportation for a patient to and from their transplant clinic. $500 secures a week of temporary housing for patients and their families during transplant recovery. $2,000 covers a Transplant Recovery Grant, easing financial burdens for families after the procedure. No one should have to face the hardship of cancer alone. Your kindness can bring hope, comfort, and strength to someone’s journey. Help us make saving a life a little easier for patients and their families. Donate today, because every second counts.

Short-Term vs. Long-Term Giving: A Moral and Utility-Based Perspective: Helping charities is a topic that I often think about. Currently, I support several charities each month. Some, like Canteen and The Fred Hollows Foundation, provide immediate aid to people. Others, like The National Breast Cancer Foundation, focus on permanent solutions to issues faced by humanity. One question arises when deciding where to donate: should we prioritise immediate needs, like famine relief, or invest in future outcomes, such as medical research? Both choices reflect our values and impact the world differently, offering distinct advantages regarding utility and moral responsibility. Donating to short-term causes like famine relief delivers immediate utility. Lives are saved in the present, and suffering is alleviated almost instantly. From a utility standpoint, this type of giving is crucial in crisis situations, where immediate action can prevent further harm or loss of life. Moreover, addressing basic human needs—such as food, shelter, and healthcare—is often considered a moral imperative. Saving lives today is ethically compelling and aligns with humanitarian principles. In contrast, long-term giving, such as funding medical research, offers deferred but potentially larger-scale benefits. Although the effects may take years, the potential to cure diseases, improve healthcare, or prevent future crises can impact millions of lives over time. The utility here comes from the compounding value—improving future outcomes for a far larger cohort. Long-term investments can be viewed as essential for systemic change. While immediate relief addresses symptoms of more significant problems, long-term solutions aim to eradicate the root causes of issues like disease and poverty. However, the delayed nature of these outcomes makes it harder for donors to see their contributions' immediate impact, making this giving less emotionally rewarding in the short term. From a moral standpoint, both forms of giving are necessary. Short-term donations fulfil an ethical duty to help those in crisis right now, while long-term donations fulfil a moral responsibility to future generations. Donating to short-term causes provides instant utility by helping people today, while long-term giving can potentially have a broader, lasting impact. The Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) is an organisation I have supported for around eight years. The thought of infants, toddlers, young people and their families battling cancer is heartbreaking to me! The CMRI conducts fundamental medical research to solve complex questions like what causes cancer and how to stop it. Their task is to make a better future. I'm participating in the Great Cycle Challenge, a month-long fundraising event for the CMRI. I will greatly appreciate your support through my fundraising page: https://lnkd.in/gkumMmNb

Yes, your inbox will recover from the crushing weight of all the solicitations you’ll receive today, Giving Tuesday. It will be a day of eye-popping donation matches and urgent pleas. And yes, my image of a 44X match was just a little satire (plus a nod to my alma mater, Syracuse, after their big win last Saturday). As you decide where to direct your generosity today, please consider the bold and forward-thinking organizations that don’t just provide services but also leverage advocacy to advance their mission. From cancer and Crohn’s disease to hunger and equality, these organizations will spend the next year defending against devastating funding cuts to federal programs and the rollback of regulations that could hurt millions of people. Your gift to these organizations isn't just charitable giving – it's an investment in lasting change. While immediate relief is a crucial and worthy investment, advocacy work ensures we're also addressing root causes. That's the kind of multiplication effect that truly matters today. #grassroots #advocacy #digitalstrategy Rubenstein Impact Group, LLC #GivingTuesday Grady Health Foundation Crohn's & Colitis Foundation Fight Colorectal Cancer American Heart Association The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

Every July, we raise awareness about sarcoma and bone cancer. Sarcoma is a rare cancer affecting soft tissues, while bone cancer targets the bones. Both have a significant impact on individuals and families, making awareness crucial. 🎗️ Sarcoma and bone cancer can affect all ages, including children. Recognizing symptoms like persistent pain, swelling, lumps, fractures with minimal trauma, and unexplained weight loss is vital. If you or someone you know has these symptoms, consult a healthcare professional. Supporting those affected is key. Organizations and advocacy groups provide resources, support networks, and funding for research. By fundraising, volunteering, or sharing information, we can make a positive impact. Let's spread the word about Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Awareness Month. This year #dryjuly means more to me than ever before. You see, I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer earlier this year and, after surgery, have been receiving treatment. Thankfully, my prognosis is excellent and with some ongoing treatment this will all be but hiccup in my life …. One of the many things I’m learning is that exercise is a major contributor to better long term outcomes. Those of you who know me know that this (exercise) has been a battle for me for many years and that although I cognitively understand this - putting it into practice has been something I’ve railed against …. My treatment includes an opportunity to engage in a cancer rehab exercise class in a small group with amazing exercise physiologists through restore oncology care & Lymphoedema Clinic. This has been a game changer for me and I can really see why it’s so important in my rehabilitation: for both my head as well as my body … And I’m loving the classes! restore oncology care & Lymphoedema Clinic participate in the #DryJuly fundraiser to raise money specifically for cancer rehabilitation. The aim is to highlight the benefits of exercise in cancer care, which is known to improve long-term outcomes, reduce side effects, and enhance the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation on tumours. Funds raised through #DryJuly are channeled back through the Pinc and Steel Foundation, enabling the provision of funded exercise classes for people affected by cancer. The more money raised, the more individuals can be supported with exercise, thereby removing financial barriers to accessing these essential services. You can help me to help others gain the benefit of exercise throughout their cancer treatment by clicking on the link below to donate to Restore Oncology Care & Lymphoedema Clinic’s Dry July campaign. https://lnkd.in/gES2pjMj Will you help me? I thank you in advance …. Jo x
