European Commission Unveils Bold Initiatives for Advanced Materials Leadership The European Commission has rolled out a comprehensive strategy to propel the European Union into a leadership position in advanced materials. This strategic move aligns with the EU's commitment to driving the twin #green and #digital #transitions. The "Communication on Advanced Materials for Industrial #Leadership" outlines actionable steps to synchronize research and innovation priorities, ensuring European dominance in this pivotal technology. Highly anticipated by Member States and industry stakeholders, this initiative marks the first stride toward a unified European approach to advanced materials, laying the foundation for transformative actions. Advanced materials, intentionally designed for superior performance, play a pivotal role in innovation across energy, electronics, construction, and mobility. This strategic push is integral to the green and digital transition. The EU's long-term competitiveness is at the core of this strategy, supporting the development, testing, and deployment capacities of new material technologies. The strategy encompasses five pillars, fostering collaboration with Member States, industry players, and key stakeholders: Strengthening the European R&I Ecosystem: A collaborative effort to enhance research and innovation capabilities in advanced materials. Fast-Tracking to Market: The creation of a "materials commons," a European digital infrastructure for accelerated research and innovation in advanced materials, leveraging AI. Increasing Capital Investment: A new partnership under Horizon Europe, aiming for €500 million investments for 2025-2027, with at least €250 million from private sources. Fostering Production and Use: Initiatives include innovation-driven procurement, standard-setting, and the launch of the Advanced Materials Academy for skills development.
