Last week I celebrated my 39th birthday as an American VC in Switzerland. Friends from Silicon Valley flew in and we cooked Mexican food all day, talking about deals and our families...no business suits or conference rooms... it reminded me of the energy that comes from California that many cities keep trying to replicate and I think the secret is to be true to yourself and hang out with people who match your *energy* personally or professionally (though both is great too!) Want to hack together in sweats? Great. Want to go to conferences in suits? Also great. As startup and venture capital ecosystems continue to grow at huge levels, allowing in newcomers each day, the key isn't going to be finding partners or investors but finding the *BEST* partners and investors for YOU. More to come from what I'm working on...

Last week, I attended the TechCrunch Annual Founders Summit in #Boston, and it was an enlightening experience. Meeting other founders provided a unique environment to exchange insights and support one another through our entrepreneurial journeys. Many of the speakers also delivered invaluable wisdom across different stages of a founder’s journey: Jess Lee offered a comprehensive framework for assessing product-market fit and crafting compelling value propositions for different types of markets. Edith Yeung provided a crash course on leveraging our online presence and branding to attract investors, customers and partners. Lily Lyman taught us how to approach investor conversations when building relationships vs raising funds. Jake Cohen shared candid advice on how to grow a venture without VC funding, or to do so in a way that keeps the founding team and its employees set for long-term success. Sara Choi emphasized the importance of conducting due diligence on the individual we pitch to, and not just the firm they represent. Daniel Kang outlined strategies to help founders optimize their cash flow and maintain financial prudence. We just closed the books on the 1st half of the year for Venture5 Media. I'm really happy with how far we've come over the last 6 months, and I wanted to share the highlights with you -- since you've helped us get there in one way or another! 👇🏻 📈 1H '24 revenue was up 75% from the same period last year. Launching the V5 Summit (https://lnkd.in/e4SH_gfT) definitely helped us in this department, as well as working closely with our sponsors on creative campaigns that got the ecosystem talking. 🏋️ We added a full time Chief of Staff and a Head of Sponsorship Sales to the team, to work alongside our mighty crew of part-timers. 🎥 We've added video interviews to 2 of our newsletters, Moves in VC and VC Deals. These have been a ton of fun for me and the team to do. So far, we've interviewed investors from shops like Lakestar and Sound Ventures, and founders backed by firms like a16z, GV, CRV, Accel, and Insight. 💰 So we can help you get paid what you deserve, for the 6th year in a row we released the VC Salary Survey (https://lnkd.in/ekzqJCRm).
