what ciara cade taught me about being a girlboss this girl interned at uber and capital one, founded the tech cadets, plus also won both hackathons she competed in. as i’ve been invited to speak at more and more tech events, it’s not only been rewarding to share information to larger crowds, but alongside, I’ve been able to meet some incredible speakers/partners. this was the case at the talk at MHacks where I was a co-panelist alongside ciara in our women in tech networking and boba event hosted by Yile (Akira) Li. Some points I learned from her were: 1️⃣Finish your sentence. As a woman in tech, you will get interrupted frequently. she said that if you get cut off -no matter what space you are in-, finish your sentence anyway. It’s important that your opinions and voice are heard. 2️⃣Don’t let comments about your identity get to you. She mentioned an experience with someone in her class *will not state. she focused on her goals regardless and knew that what that person said wouldn’t affect her. 3️⃣Lastly, outside the event, i asked her what motivated her. She said “it’s fun :P” she said she has high standards, and she’s enthusiastic towards reaching them. It looks like she continues to keep them high. As I go forward in the future, I will continue to believe in myself and not settle. as i climb, i am climbing with humility. there is always something to learn from those you work with. so much respect to everybody. Genuinely proud of ciara, and glad to call her a homie too :3 she’s been on here, likely u already know her, new ppl on linkedin follow her anyways @ Ciara Cade. she was actually one of the ppl who inspired me to post more here. #hackathon #hackathonwin #careergrowth #internships2025 #classof2026 #linkedin #competitions #computerscience #cs #csmemes #computerengineering #engineering #softwareengineering #fullstack #womenintech #womeninengineering #developers #hackathonloss #setback

Last year, I found out about Tech4Dev in a community I belonged to. Super curious, I checked them out and LOVED the idea of using tech to help others. I wanted to join their fellowship program SO bad! But hold on... My job was crazy busy and I wasn't feeling too well then. Part of me thought, "What if I can't do it all? Did I let that stop me? NOPE! I figured out how to manage my time better and I applied with a quick video explaining why I wanted to be part of the program. Fortunately, the technology gods were on my side through this trying period! Ultimately I had to reschedule for the interview and …that was it. There wasn’t any congratulatory email BUT, wait… An email arrived requesting a video RE-shoot! Double plot twist!!! I re-did the video, opened up, and shared my deepest feelings again, 48 hours later…I MADE IT IN! This journey has never been a walk in the park. It all began with the orientation. Coursework stretched us, group projects piled on, and weekly assessments kept us on our toes. What’s more challenging? Public speaking? For someone who shies away from public life that was an obstacle! But you know what? My awesome study group became my backbone. We came together as friends and during the presentation let’s just say that I bore the pain (and found out that it is fun!). I changed in terms of communication skills and how to present myself. Six months later, guess what else happened? I had two big surgeries! Talk about tough! But I made it through the program, feeling stronger than ever. Career Week was amazing! I met these incredible women who are using tech to change the world. It made me realize how much I accomplished by NOT giving up on my dreams. As the mentorship session unfolds I hope to return and share the challenges I faced and how I was able to overcome them. The lesson I learned? Don't let fear hold you back! As they say, "What if you fly? This program wasn't just about tech, it was about pushing my limits and finding a strength I never knew I had. #womentechstersfellow# #productmanagement# #yougotthis#
