If you could have any breakthrough in your career what would it be? When producer and director Rajesh Thind was selected as a Breakthrough leader this time last year, here is the Breakthrough he told me he wanted: To produce and direct a quality purpose-driven documentary series. “I am driven more by a sense of purpose and mission than I am purely by 'success' or money,” He said. “I've come to see why it matters to me that I get to work on ideas that have deep meaning for me.” Well, today Rajesh has brought about that Breakthrough, and as the group’s coach, I am bursting with unearned pride for him. Channel 4 has commissioned a major three-part documentary series on how British Asians in the 70s fought back against National Front attacks. It’s from Rogan Productions, Left Handed Films and GroupM Motion Entertainment. And, drum roll, it is directed and produced by Rajesh Thind. This morning Rajesh writes to me: “I grew up amdist the events that are portrayed in this series and have wanted to share these stories of how British Asians played our part in fighting back against racism and fascism ever since. Back in 2018, without any funding, I started developing a feature documentary on some of the events that we now have the privilege of looking at in our series ‘Defiance’. It is profoundly gratifying to be bringing these epochal untold stories to primetime British terrestrial television. I hope these films inspire new generations facing new waves of fascism to stand up for their rights." “Being on the Breakthrough Leaders programme while I was working on this series was a great blessing. #BEWAContentCreationCompetition2024 #PersonalDevelopment #EnoSam Topic: The Purpose of Purpose I am participating in the biggest content competition across Africa hosted by Eno Sam and BEWA Africa. _____________________________ So many people are trying to find the reason for their existence daily. Why do I matter? Why do I exist? Why am I different? What can I do? These questions often plague the average person's mind because in every man lies a vacuum called “relevance” that needs to be discovered and fulfilled. We cannot tap into our full potential without personal discovery. You are "YOU" irrespective of those you learn from. Purpose is a common word in the world of motivational seminars and conferences. However, there are some misconceptions about purpose. Purpose is not what you can do (gifts and talents). Purpose is discovering the reason you exist or the existence of a thing. It is erroneous to think that you exist to become successful, get married, have a family, become wealthy and famous, etc. You can have all this and still feel confused because you have not discovered why you exist and why you do what you do. Consider this scenario: Can you buy a product or service that you do not know its value to you or your business? No, right? Because certain questions and feedback should be in place before going ahead to purchase the product or service. However, it is the same for the inventor or manufacturer. They know why a particular product or service exists and what purpose it is to serve. Nothing exists without a purpose. In other words, you cannot properly discover purpose until you define the root of your existence. The million-dollar question is: “Who made you?” The moment you answer this question, you are ready to begin the journey of discovering the reason for your existence. Understand that all your gifts and talents are simply pointers to your purpose. They are the channels that can help you carry your purpose to the world. How to discover purpose? 1. Find Your Maker: As a Christian, “We are created in His Image and Likeness to have dominion. (Genesis 1:26-28)” This is a personal discussion with your Maker. It is just like a customer who wants to buy a particular professional sound equipment. He doesn’t go to any store but rather looks for the best amongst them and asks the one in charge for what he wants or a recommendation of the best kind. 2. Focus on the inherent gifts and skills you already possess, not the ones you aspire to learn. When you are aware of these strengths, it can help you stay focused and consistent in developing them. 3. Engage your purpose, don’t sweep it under the carpet waiting for perfection. Perfection is simply an illusion that steals your drive. If you're delaying starting that project or assignment because you feel unqualified, lack the necessary knowledge, or don't know the right people, you're not yet ready to be a catalyst for change.
