🪸 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺’𝘀 𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘁 🪸 Until now, we have mostly relied on entries from our fellow citizen scientists, often wishing for the chance to see one of these giants for ourselves. Finally, in November, we had the opportunity to conduct a mini-expedition in Faafu Atoll, where the MaRHE Center is located. Over the course of three days, we explored some of the nearby reefs and made some incredible discoveries. Here the first one: a massive 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 sp. coral colony measuring 11 meters across, with a 35-meter perimeter, and standing 6 meters tall. This discovery is a testament to the resilience and beauty of our oceans—but also an awakening reminder of what’s at stake. How many more giants like this exist in the world’s oceans? Where are they? And can we afford to lose them before we even know they’re there? 𝗪𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱. The Underwater 8th Continent of our Planet #Zealandia | MS019 | MEENAMMA Speaks Today let's explore the mysteries surrounding Zealandia, the submerged eighth continent beneath the Pacific Ocean. This colossal landmass, greater in size than India, separated from Australia around 60-85 million years ago. Today, over 90% of it lies hidden underwater, challenging traditional concepts in geography and geology. Zealandia isn't just a submerged landmass; it's a treasure trove of scientific wonders. It hosts unique ecosystems, ancient fossils, and rare species, providing invaluable insights into the Earth's history and the process of continental drift. This hidden continent unveils the dynamic nature of our planet, offering a unique perspective on the world's geographical evolution. #Zealandia #UnderwaterContinent #GeologicalMystery #EarthHistory #ContinentalDrift #HiddenEcosystems #ScientificExploration #NatureSecrets #SubmergedLandmass #GeographyWonders https://lnkd.in/gNG759Xx

There are places left on Earth so remote they exist between imagined and real. Magic and mysticism thrive in the vast unknown beyond our control. Mythology and superstition dictate daily life and the supernatural keeps the primordial alive. Lost in dense, inaccessible forests on a river that can only go one direction, you let go, surrender, connect, go deeper and deeper. You experience yourself in wildness, and live in life. In May 2023, we launched the Cassai “Source of the Congo” Megatransect in the remote eastern Angolan Highlands. The objective was to establish a detailed hydrological and ecological baseline for the little-known headwaters of the Cassai (“Kasai”) River. In the process, we demonstrated a new primary source, the Munhango River and explored its full-length to the confluence. The Cassai River is the only definitive example of large-scale “river capture” in the region. It beheaded the Zambezi’s Chavuma River about 300,000 years ago, extending the Congo-Zambezi Divide southward. Deeply incised valleys and peatlands suggest further advancement of the Congo Basin by back tilting of the watersheds. The Cassai River felt like a place for lost things, like us. We found Zambezi tigerfish isolated by cataracts downstream in the Congo Basin. Molecular studies suggest tigerfish evolved in the Upper Zambezi Basin and then seeded neighbouring river systems, including the Congo and Lower Zambezi Rivers. Like the fish, we felt like Okavango-Zambezi refugees headed in the wrong direction into the unknown. Local fishermen told us of sacred sites and water spirits. The sacred sites we visited weren’t documented or photographed. They will remain in the silent reverence of our expedition team. I will never forget them and don’t know that I will ever see them again. Protected by their remote inaccessibility they remain all powerful. The Cassai River was unlike any river we had explored in the past. You could feel the Congo Basin reaching up into the Angolan Highlands with unfamiliar riverine forest towering above us. The hippos didn’t know what we were, neither did the crocodiles. It was the wildest stretch of river I have ever explored. We get to share our river baseline of this extraordinary river with you thanks to our ROLEX Perpetual Planet Initiative partnership! We look forward to sharing the rest of our journey exploring and traversing the Great Spine of Africa by The Wilderness Project!
Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative partner and National Geographic Explorer Steve Boyes has ventured into the unknown waters of the Angolan Highlands to trace the origins of a major tributary of the Congo River, as part of his Great Spine of Africa Expeditions. By following the water as it filters from the sponge-like peatlands, known as “natural water towers”, into a narrow stream, before joining the flow of the Cassai River, his team documented a key source of Africa’s water to prove it needs urgent protection. Atlantic ocean - Quarteira - admired by our guests 🇵🇹The Atlantic Ocean’s name comes from Greek mythology, meaning "Sea of Atlas." 🇵🇹The Titanic sank in the North Atlantic in 1912. 🇵🇹It has the world’s saltiest sea, the Sargasso Sea. 🇵🇹The Mid-Atlantic Ridge, an underwater mountain range, is spreading apart, causing the Atlantic to widen by about an inch each year. 🇵🇹The Gulf Stream, a powerful Atlantic current, influences weather patterns across Europe and North America. 🇵🇹The Atlantic Ocean was the first ocean to be crossed by ship and by airplane.

AMAZON , Don’t destroy AMAZON Our forests are disappearing at an alarming rate. Over the past few decades, we've witnessed the devastating impact of deforestation, with millions of acres of lush, vibrant ecosystems being cleared for various purposes. This alarming trend not only destroys the natural habitats of countless species but also contributes to climate change, soil erosion, and the disruption of vital water cycles. It's time we take action to protect and restore our precious forests and oceans and finally Earth before it's too late. NATO or other Organizations are also responsible for protecting our forests and oceans and all humanity with peace . They should respect to all thoughts without considering racism and finally developing to keep our planet Earth . We have no other place to live as alternative except Earth . Let’s young leaders control future of our planet. NATO and Organization are responsible to bring peace not to manufacturing war guns and tools . We are all in one ship . Please don’t make hole our ship .
Penguin's Great Escape: Mission Impossible – Antarctic Edition! It was a high-stakes chase for one penguin, desperately trying to evade a killer whale on its tail. This epic scene was captured by Matt Karsten and his wife Anna, who were on a dinghy in Antarctic waters for whale watching. They watched in awe as the gentoo penguin darted through the water, out-swimming the whale for several minutes. In a miraculous twist, the penguin made a daring leap towards the dinghy. After an unsuccessful first attempt, it finally managed to be saved by a quick-thinking passenger on the second try. This epic chase was straight out of an action movie! 🤗

The osprey is unusual in that it is a sole living species that occurs nearly worldwide. Even the few subspecies are not unequivocally separable. There are four generally recognised subspecies, although differences are small, and ITIS lists only the first three.[10] Pandion haliaetus haliaetus (Linnaeus, 1758) – the Eurasian osprey is the nominate subspecies that occurs across the Palearctic realm and several parts of sub-Saharan Africa from the Azores and the Iberian Peninsula east to Japan and Kamchatka Peninsula, throughout South and Southeast Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Madagascar and much of the African coastline.[11] P. haliaetus carolinensis (Gmelin, 1788)– the American or North American osprey occurs from Alaska and Canada to much of Central and South America, except Chile and Patagonia. It is larger, darker bodied and has a paler breast than the European osprey.
