I don’t normally post my music video work on here, quite niche and not sure how many of you are into extreme heavy metal! 😂 However, I’m quite proud of this latest video I made before I start my new job at Dovetail Games next week. Entirely CG. Mountains and terrains were made in Houdini using heightfields and shaders. Oceans made with niagara fluids. Blizzard and pyro with niagara particles. Additional pyro and wind gusts in Houdini Flipbooks. Additional assets with Megascans. Brought together and colour graded in Unreal Engine. Transitions and additional VFX in DaVinci Resolve

Quick little ninety-second creature demo; Gouache on Duralar vellum. This technique is effective; you can create twenty to thirty little creatures in about an hour. Cheers!

Character Exploration in process The Antler Undead is a fictional zombie creature that haunts the eerie woodlands. According to legend, an Antler never bothers anyone unless it encounters a person who is weeping and crying. The Antler feeds on sorrow, which is its lifeblood. My first Gaea 2 Landscape. Gaea2 + Houdini 20.5+ Megascans + Nuke. The texture was generated in Gaea, but I used triplanar textures in Houdini to enhance the detail. Also dialled in some procedural noise in near vertical areas to add detail and used a blue tinted volume to add depth cue. As a final touch I scattered some Megascans rocks and added a volume to represent dust at the bottom of the canyon. Render time was 8 minutes a frame with 64 samples at 1080p. https://lnkd.in/e8Fp7D5t

About a month late, but my friend Joel Swanson and I participated in another game jam over two weeks in October. It was a pass off jam where part of the requirement was to use music created for a music jam held in the weeks prior. The Hunted Corn Maze: https://lnkd.in/gkscxhjQ Artstation summary of my assets: https://lnkd.in/gWjh6ZgM For this jam I focused on artwork and technical art. Specifically, I was keen to leverage nanite by taking decimated poly-painted sculpts directly from ZBrush into Unreal. This was very empowering as it cut out much of the tedium in UVs and allowed me to stay in ZBrush for most of an asset's creation. I also got to take a couple characters through the full pipeline, which was a gratifying challenge given the time constraints. I was able to get them moving around in-engine in about 2 days each, thanks in large part to the rigging toolset I've been iterating on. There were certainly some corners cut, but that fit with the "good enough" mentality that is so alluring about game jams for me. The corn maze was also a fun challenge. The corn needed to be somewhat interactable and queryable, but lightweight enough that it could cover the landscape with sufficient density. For that I leveraged custom landscape layers and PCG, which was something I hadn't engaged with very much prior. Anyway, I know it's not Halloween season anymore, but if you're looking for a short, spooky experience about dodging a chainsaw-armed giant in a corn maze, look no further!
