💧🌎 Australia’s AquaWatch system breaks ground in the UK! CSIRO, along with foundational partner Lot Fourteen’s SmartSat CRC and a network of collaborators, will establish a ‘weather service’ for water quality in the UK. ⛅ 🌊 AquaWatch, a world-first ground-to-space water quality monitoring system, has set up various test sites to monitor different aquatic environments since its inception, such as bays, wetlands, rivers, lakes, and coral reefs. 🐠 💦 Now, AquaWatch is expanding its reach to the UK with the establishment of AquaWatch UK, marking the first time the initiative will be implemented on a national scale by another country. The project is supported by the UK Space Agency’s International Bilateral Fund, with additional funding from the Australian Space Agency, as part of the ongoing UK-Australia Space Bridge initiative. 🌌 🛰️ Projects like AquaWatch showcase the role of space technology in tackling global challenges through collaboration. 🤝 🌍 📷 Satellite image of a phytoplankton bloom in the English Channel near Plymouth. ©European Union, Copernicus Sentinel-2 #AquaWatch #SpaceTechnology #EarthObservation #Collaboration #SpaceIndustry #InnovationDistrict

🤷♀️ What is around the corner for coastal erosion monitoring and planning? 🚨 #Coastal planning and #erosion forecasting 📈 require accurate waterline position along with all environmental conditions (tide level, wind waves, etc.) 🌊 However a lot of countries do not have historical records. This new grant allow us to investigate #EO methods to extract coastal conditions.
🌊 Great news! ARGANS, leveraging insights from ESA Global Development Assistance (GDA) programme, has received a UK Space Agency grant to advance coastal monitoring. Building on the ESA Coastal Erosion from Space project, the Global Shoreline project aims to generate precise shorelines worldwide using Sentinel satellites promising advancements, especially in developing regions. This grant enables ARGANS to continue research with isardSAT and the University of Southampton, showcasing the importance of ESA’s GDA programme in fostering satellite-based solutions and enhancing resilience in vulnerable regions. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/etDgtYgv Information on ESA Coastal Erosion from Space project: https://lnkd.in/epmfacVb Key Highlights: 📡 Global Shoreline Project: Utilises Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellites for precise shorelines. 🌍 Validated Expertise: Shoreline mapping validated by experts from Spain, Italy, Ireland, and the UK. 📊 Long-term Data: Demonstrates the effectiveness of datum-corrected Satellite Derived shorelines over three decades. 🐳📢Get to know AQUARIUS and our people! There are several work strands to AQUARIUS, each led by different institutes and organisations, all contributing to the AQUARIUS goal of providing free access to European marine and freshwater research infrastructures. Let’s dive into one of our key focus areas: 🛫 “Facilitating transnational access to a curated catalogue of marine and freshwater research infrastructures” This work consolidates all the information related to the research infrastructures (where, what, how) and manages the logistical and governance aspects necessary to enable access to these facilities. Who is involved? This work is led by the Marine Institute, Ireland (AQUARIUS project coordinator), with input from all the research infrastructure providers and all partners. What are we doing? We will be offering centralised access on our website to a selection of 57 diverse marine and freshwater research infrastructures across Europe, including: 🚢 Research vessels 🌊 Mobile ocean observation Platforms 🏝 Fixed Marine Facilities ⚗ Experimental Research Facilities (including land-based, freshwater and marine) ✈ Aircrafts 🚁Drones 🛰 Satellite Services 🌅 River and Basin Supersites 📌 Full catalogue will be made available soon! Why are we doing this? Bringing together this scale and diversity of state-of-the-art research infrastructures for the first time will enable researchers to see what is available, encouraging them to explore how these facilities can bolster their research and innovation projects focused on marine or freshwater ecosystems. By facilitating access to these via Transnational Access Funding Calls, we aim to catalyse collaborations and advance scientific discovery. 👉 Subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date with all the information regarding the launch of Transnational Access Funding Calls to support your freshwater and ocean research. https://lnkd.in/euHeWKhN #EUGreenDeal #MissionOcean #CallsforAccess #Research #Ocean #Freshwater #Science #Apply Horizon Europe Marine Institute European Research Executive Agency (REA) Aodhán F.
