When we met with our leadership team in Jakarta last month, I was set to present our supply chain performance and growth outlook. At first, it felt like just an opportunity to talk through risks and opportunities. But as I stood there, I realized that this one was going to be different. The stakes were higher, the expectations sharper. Midway through, we paused for an external speaker, agreeing to pick things up later in the day. That unexpected break gave me a moment to breathe, reflect and reset. When we resumed, I had one goal, to lead with intention. This presentation had to be more than just data, it had to be a call for action. So, instead of simply delivering updates, I spoke about solutions to unleash further growth. At that point the dynamic changed. My colleagues weren’t just listening, they were leaning in, fully engaged and the energy in the room was palpable. In that moment, the discussion shifted to become courageous and outcome obsessed. By leading with vulnerability and strength, we brought our values to life. Daring to think bigger and knowing that All in together we were going to make it happen. We often operate on autopilot, lost in the demands of the day. But when we anchor ourselves in intention and combine it with outcome obsessed and action driven, everything changes. What initially was a simple routine supply chain discussion transformed into a catalyst of growth. So let’s bring intention and action into every moment, every meeting and every challenge. Because when we lead with intention, we ignite hope, create collective energy, the kind that drives dreams to reality.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with both the Lean Production System (LPS) and Total Quality Management (TQM) at various companies over the years. One thing that stands out during audits is how critical standardization is. Many companies struggle with this, and it’s often a key reason why they fail in the audits. During an audit, there are several things we focus on, and the most important question is: Is the process standardized? Here’s how we usually check for that (Free tips): + Are the standardization sheets available at the process? ➡️ We ask the team leader or supervisor to show us the standardization sheets. + Have the supervisor and manager approved the standardization sheets? ➡️ We check for their signatures on the sheets. + Are the standardization sheets up-to-date, and have the updates been acknowledged by both the supervisor and manager? ➡️ We look for any recent changes and confirm them with supervisor and manager's signatures. Once we’ve confirmed the paperwork, we head to the production line to see how things play out in real operation. Here’s what we observe: (1) Where are the standardization sheets kept on the production line? (2) Do the operators follow the sheets? (3) Are they skipping any steps? (4) Are the operators following the standardization sheets, or are they relying on habits? After observing, we usually talk to one or two operators to check their understanding of their process and the relevant standardization sheets. Standardization, or what the Japanese call Hyoujunka (標準化), is absolutely essential in any industry. Without it, products or services will lack consistency and lead to variations. Imagine a paint shop without a standard—each time a different operator works, the same red paint could come out looking maroon. The same principle applies across industries. In fast food, for example, the taste of a Big Mac in Kuala Lumpur should be the same as in Puncak Alam. That’s the power of standardization. How often do you struggle to be understood? After training and coaching middle to higher-level managers in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta, for the past 7 years, I truly understand their challenges. They are often short on resources yet constantly pressured to perform. If you've been to Jakarta, you know how terrible the traffic jam is. Many managers I've coached leave home around 6 am to avoid or at least reduce time spent in traffic jams. They also leave their offices after 9 pm or later for the same reason. Most of these managers, who have become close friends after our coaching sessions, are parents to young children. I often ask them, "How often do you see your children?" They usually respond, "Only during the weekend, Cass." As a mother of two sons, I know how precious parents value their time with children is, and my heart goes out to these middle managers. They struggle with timelines and constantly communicating with multiple parties at work: customers, reporting managers, their own teams, and other colleagues. Can they be more efficient at work so that they can have more time to spend with their loved ones? Yes, they can. By learning to influence and impact those around them, their roles as managers will improve, they will be able to communicate their ideas, recommendation, suggestion powerfully and effectively to their reports. Come learn the essential skills of a manager in communication—Influence and Impact—next Tuesday, July 23rd, at 3 pm in South Jakarta. Invite your colleagues to join you. Progress together; develop stronger teams and successful organizations. Early bird tickets are available until tomorrow. 🌟 Operational Optimization Workshop at Bank of Singapore, Asia's Global Private Bank Malaysia office: A Success in Collaboration and Discovery! 🌟 I recently had the privilege of facilitating the Operational Optimization Workshop (OO Workshop) at #BankofSingapore Malaysia office, and I am thrilled to share the positive outcomes with all of you. The workshop provided an invaluable platform for our Malaysia colleagues to break down silos and collaborate more effectively. Through the discovery and uncovering of our product and services workflows, participants gained a deeper understanding of each other's work. This clarity not only fostered better teamwork but also instilled a stronger sense of pride in our collective purpose. By identifying and addressing internal and external inefficiencies, the workshop highlighted key pain points that need to be resolved. Participants engaged in studying both demand and capability, which helped them identify gaps and set more realistic expectations. This, in turn, will enable us to better serve our customers and meet their needs more effectively. Although there were no changes to the existing workflows, the workshop allowed participants to pinpoint areas for improvement. These identified action points are the starting blocks for evolutionary changes, ensuring continuous growth and betterment from where we are now. I am incredibly proud of the dedication and insight shown by all participants. Together, we are on the path to making significant strides in operational excellence. Let's continue to build on this momentum and drive forward with the same collaborative spirit! Thanks to Rozita Awang, SPHRi and Azfar Mahdi PHRi, MyCP for working with me to setup this workshop. 🚀💼 #OperationalOptimization #Collaboration #ContinuousImprovement #BOSWMMY #TeamSuccess #OneTeam #Agile #Kanban #Statik #OO #BOSAgilityStudio #Transformation #Change #EvolutionaryChange #BusinessAgility
