Fewer people know that positive experiences in our workday outweigh the effects of negative ones, are felt more strongly, and last longer. This week is about small actions and gestures that make others' lives better. If you're not sure what you can do this week, here's a suggestion: tell someone how much you appreciate them 👏 In doing so, use your own words and be specific - authenticity outweighs grand words. "YOU deserve a break today..." McDonald's 1971 - It was true then and it's even truer today. It's a proven fact that taking breaks reduces stress and actually boosts your productivity. The breaks don't have to be a week at the The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. in Laguna Nigel or any other Ritz for that matter (although that would be great!). Just an hour here and there might be enough for you to re-start to re-charge your mental and physical batteries. So, what's stopping you (besides yourself)?? == >Guilt - You don't deserve it? ==> Reward delay - You haven't earned it yet? ==> Time management - You 'just' don't have the time? Or anything else you can throw into this pot of not treating yourself as well as you should be. Don't let these or any other excuses get in your way. You do deserve a break today so get up and get away to McDonalds, The Ritz Carlton, the beach, the woods, the trail or anywhere you can just have time to yourself. As December rolls around, here's my hot tips on making our end-of-year events more inclusive. #KnowledgeNugget 🛑 A lot of events/meetings this time of the year promise conversations and connection. With no detail on how that is happening. Or what the evening will look like? Is there a panel chat? Is there food provided? Should I eat beforehand?  ✨ Instead, do this: Add some details on activities, timings and flow of the celebration day helps people manage their time and energy better. Not to mention, knowing what to expect is a relief for a lot of us, including several neurodivergent brains. 🛑 Consider the environment you are meeting in. Even though the idea of these events is to connect, often they are held in pubs which are a sensory overload for a lot of people (And not inclusive in a variety of ways!). Some neurodivergent brains find this exhausting, some people don't want to be drinking alcohol, some introverted people simply avoid the events because its taxing.  ✨Instead, do this: Consider alternate activities like a potluck, picnic, lawn bowls, trivia etc. They are relatively light activities, can be done outside and you can enjoy the Australian summer! #win 🛑 Do all your corporate events start in the evening? Might there be people on your team who have caring responsibilities or other commitments?  ✨ Instead, do this: Consider at least a portion of the celebration to happen during work hours. It gives people an accessible way to still connect with their teams over meaningful ways. If others want, they can contuinue the evening into a restaurant or elsewhere. Even though my social battery is often depleted this time of the year, I do enjoy the (slight) slowing down of work, the beautiful summer nights and an opportunity to kick back and reflect on the year. The Coffee Chronicles: The Friday Coffee Adventure ☕☕☕ In the heart of a bustling city, there was an office much like any other. Every morning, as the sun rose over the skyscrapers, the employees would gather around their beloved coffee machine. This machine wasn’t just a source of caffeine; it was the heart of the office, where ideas were exchanged, laughs were shared, and friendships were forged. One particularly hectic Friday, the coffee machine decided it needed a break, much like everyone else in the office. As word spread, a sense of mild panic set in. How would they survive the day without their precious coffee? Kavya, the ever-resourceful HR leader, saw an opportunity in this mini-crisis. She suggested a spontaneous trip to a new café around the corner. As they walked to the café, conversations flowed effortlessly. Mark from accounting shared a hilarious story about his cat, while Priya from marketing recounted her latest travel adventure.
