U-Nation has established a Startup Accelerator, which began in September 2024 with support from USAID. This accelerator is the first international innovation program in Southern Ukraine, attracting over 50 mentors, experts, and investors from around the globe. It plays a crucial role in establishing an innovation ecosystem. Its initial cohort features startups that aim to enhance competitiveness in various sectors, including agriculture and technology. They are also developing a platform for attracting global technologies for Ukraine’s restoration, where corporations and startups can test their innovative solutions within the local ecosystem. I’m honored to have been selected as a jury member for the Semi-Final session of the ClimateLaunchpad Europe contest this week. Innovative startups from #Spain, #France, #Germany, #Netherlands, the #UK, and #Türkiye presented groundbreaking ideas aimed at creating a better, more #SustainableWorld🌍. Witnessing the energy and enthusiasm of these brilliant minds was truly inspiring💡! Some of the key areas of #innovation included #prosumers #aggregation, #GridResiliency, #GreenMobility, new #materials for #buildings and for #packaging, #EnergyStorage and #CO2 absorption. A few key takeaways that stood out to me: 1️⃣ #CO2 reduction is a priority for these startups, each offering unique solutions and technologies to tackle the issue: this mission clearly resonates with the #NextGeneration of changemakers🌱. 2️⃣ Every solution was deeply rooted in #CustomerNeeds, an approach that’s essential but often overlooked👏. 3️⃣ #Innovation and #sustainability are not just buzzwords—they’re being embraced as the pillars for creating impactful, disruptive solutions⚡. It was a privilege to be part of this jury alongside such esteemed professionals, including João Dias da Silva, Brooke Wachtel, Patricia Kroondijk. Special thanks to Israel Griol Barres, PhD and Ederik Tiessen for their leadership and support. Federico Esu, Climate-KIC, European Union, #NeverStopLearning

🌐 Just returned from the annual summit of IFSWF (International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds) in the wonderful and hospitable Oman. - My takeaway from the 16th IFSWF was that Sovereign Wealth Funds are transitioning into Sovereign Development Funds. - My read is that there will be a big focus on private markets in creating national champions from the R&D stage through to building the ecosystems to re-industrialise and commercialise new emerging infrastructure. - Our friends and partners at national innovation engines like National Science Foundation (NSF), King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) , National Technology Development Program Research, Development and Innovation Authority (RDIA), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Innovate UK, Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) and SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen and many others are very much already on the path of creating national and regional innovation champions https://lnkd.in/e-YDfMt4. - With Abu Dhabi 🇦🇪 hosting the next meeting and their national champions like Masdar, ADIA, ADNOC and Mubadala, who have already been very active in creating an ecosystem for their own re-industrialisation, i am looking forward to continue to debate the theme of ‘Lab to commercialisation’ at the relevant forums. - Our Deep Science Ventures expertise in Climate, Restorative agriculture, Pharma and Computation, maps perfectly with sectors of many of the sovereigns have as their national priority. - With this historic need to create advanced re-industrialisation movements in their own countries, the work we are doing with various national innovation engines via our Deep Science Ventures Venture Science Doctorate, we will engineer novel new IP, train 1000's of entrepreneurial scientists and create moonshot (earthsot) national champions from scratch to solve grand national challenges - faster and more efficiently - Downstream - we will develop these projects and commercialise new novel climate technologies via Mark1, in the process creating an ‘ecosystem akin to a village’ with partners like strategic corporates, EPC’s, insurers, financiers etc.) - Finally sizeable Emerging Infrastructure Funds for investing in, deploying and constructing platforms of commercial facilities for these novel technologies - these are all going to be very relevant themes to have on everyones agenda for 2025. Many thanks to Duncan Bonfield, Victoria Barbary, PhD, Obaid Amrane, the Oman Investment Authority, Nasser Sulaiman Al Harthy for being wonderful hosts I was delighted to have many engaging conversations with friends from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Qatar Investment Authority, Oman Investment Authority, GIC, COFIDES, Ethiopian Investment Holdings, Bpifrance, Mubadala Financial Investment, Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), Craig Thorburn cc Dr. Thane Campbell Barbara Diehl

🚀 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐬: 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧! 🚀 #GeoBuizSummitEurope | Relive the highlights of our panel on 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐆𝐚𝐩𝐬, where we explored the unique ways GIS-based startups across Europe are transforming industries with cutting-edge applications. From smart city solutions to environmental monitoring, these trailblazing ventures address high-impact issues in niche fields where adaptable, data-driven geospatial technologies make all the difference. 🌍💡 Here’s what our panelists highlighted: Moderated by Andries Botha, Technical Advisor, Woolpert Mark van der Meijde, Head of the Department of Applied Earth Sciences, ITC, University of Twente: To make Transitions, a careful balance is still required. Within academia, collaborating with players is a key step. The majority of collaborations of universities are still with companies associated with the traditional energy markets- oil and gas. A shift needs to occur at the academic level as well. Irene Sánchez Cebrián, Policy Officer DG DEFIS, European Commission: She explains how the conversion of projects and ideas into businesses are given a platform through ESA's initiatives. Such initiatives encourage students- the young innovators. Koen Meilink, Business Manager Environment & Sustainability, S&T: Successful start-ups have always developed from problem-solving perspectives and also when they've pursued their originality. As opposed to providing EO data and services that exist in the market. Panelists discussed what opportunities lie for start-ups, the challenges and strategies essential for navigating complex markets yet how they can present their enormous potential for market capture.
