New product: Comoy’s Designer 900 E 1711 Smooth Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies. This looks to be a very special Comoy’s, and one very different from the make’s usual offerings. The Designer series seems to have been Comoy’s answer to the Collector series from Dunhill; hand-turned stummels without set shapes, whose designs were at the whim of their carver and of the briar itself. Regarding the latter, this one has plenty of beautiful bird’s-eye and cross grain patterns, so its ‘designer’ clearly did have a good vision for what this pipe could be. The pipe also comes with a matching three piece pipe tool, also carved from briar, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen from Comoy’s before. The pipe is completely unsmoked, and the tamper is also unused. Both come with the pipe’s original presentation case. As for its provenance, the pipe was, according to the collector who sent it to our trade-in program, purchased in 1978. He included the pipe’s original receipt, shown in the last photo – adjusted for inflation, the 110 US dollars he paid for it would therefore be approximately 550 US dollars today. Details: Length: 6″ / 152.4mm Bowl Width: 0.94 / 23.87mm Bowl Depth: 1.92″ / 48.76mm Weight: 2.1oz / 62g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/bj2KWt #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

New product: Ben Wade Danish Hand Model 100 Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates While Ben Wade was a historic British pipe brand, for a time during the 1970s, production of Ben Wade pipes was contracted out to one of Danish pipe-making’s superstars: Preben Holm. Though he would tragically pass away at the age of 42, Holm was one of the pioneering figures in the ‘Danish design’ movement in 20th century pipe-making, a movement that still dominates the high-grade pipe scene. By hand-shaping his pipes on a belt sander, Holm was able to make the most of the patterns of grain hidden within briar, creating spectacular works of pipe art that looked just as good as they smoked. Owing to Holm’s untimely passing, his pipes are even more highly sought after than they were during his lifetime. The Preben Holm workshop was nothing if not versatile. Some pipes were quite traditional in style (the Traditional models, for example); others were more organically-inspired compositions (such as many of the Prominence and Designer models). This particular pipe from Holm’s workshop is, however, expressive of an aesthetic that is quintessential for the Danish freehand pipe. It is bold, sharp, and almost aggressive in its shaping, yielding a thoroughly assertive design. It also wears a deep, ring grain sandblast that further adds to its rugged profile. The condition is good. The pipe was clearly a faithful companion to its previous owner, resulting in a build-up of inner rim darkening. On the other hand, it is a pipe that is aesthetically and functionally rough-and-ready, so I wouldn’t worry about this too much. I promised you some good DIY projects and I’m here to deliver. Our lemons are finally turning into lemonade while making the environment smile 😃 ♻️ Who knew those countless paper ads you get from your mailbox could become something useful? Today, we’re transforming them into a beautiful Wabi Sabi organic vessel. Here’s how: Materials Needed: • Paper and tape • Burlap • Plaster of Paris (I used Powafix) • Cementitious coating (I used Mixx cement ) • Bonding liquid Instructions: 1. Form the Shape: • Use paper and tape to create the basic shape of your vessel. Remember, the shape will evolve as you proceed. 2. Prepare the Burlap: • Cut pieces of burlap to size. 3. Mix Plaster of Paris: • Combine Plaster of Paris with water to achieve a watery soup-like consistency. Work in small batches, as it dries quickly. 4. Apply Burlap: • Dunk the burlap in the plaster mixture and apply it to the vessel, starting from the inside. Smooth it out as you go. 5. Dry: • Allow the vessel to dry completely until it’s rock hard. 6. Finish with Plaster of Paris: • Apply a final layer of just Plaster of Paris. Let it dry thoroughly. 7. Sand: • Lightly sand the vessel for a smooth finish. 8. Cementitious Coating: • Mix the cementitious coating with bonding liquid to a watery consistency. Apply it with a brush, let it dry, and then apply a second coat. 9. Seal: • Once dry, seal your vessel to protect it. By following these steps, you can turn unwanted paper ads into a unique and functional piece of art. Enjoy your new Wabi Sabi vessel! #diy #reuse #repurpose #rethink #design

Large custom mats are great- we sell them every day and our customers love them! Are they always the best solution? Negative. This photo tells a story. The original mat was probably great when it was first installed. The problem is- once part of that custom mat is damaged, there is no making it whole again. In a situation like this, ErgoDeck tiles (pictured right) can be put together to fill the area down to the inch. Best part? If the ErgoDeck installation gets damaged, simply replace those 1-2 tiles and continue on like new! Here's a great guide to decide if a mat vs. flooring system will be best for you: https://lnkd.in/gHGSUfuy

New product: Moonlight Pipes Bent Volcano Handmade Briar Pipe, New While some pipe-makers take inspiration from the natural world, or from the technologies of present and past, few of them in the contemporary seek to represent these forms in their work. Czech artisan Ondrej Bárta of Moonlight pipes does just that, in a way that recalls the intricate, figural carvings of briar pipes from the turn of the 20th century. But Ondrej also departs from the figural approach of early briar pipes by combining it with high-grade materials and a careful attention to grain patterns that is far more modern. Of all of the various design elements that are constantly being innovated or updated in pipe-making, one that has received far less attention than others is texture. Many pipe-makers pride themselves on improvements made to smooth and sandblasted finishing techniques, but far fewer explore new approaches to other finishes, such as rustication styles. This pipe from Ondrej’s Moonlight make has its own ideas regarding the broad latter category. It is a partially smooth finished volcano shape with an under-slung shank, but the shank and the base of the bowl are hand-carved with a sinewy patterning reminiscent of the fibers of tree bark. Comparisons may be drawn to Paul Larrysson Hubbart’s tree trunk pokers, though while Larrysson tended towards species such as the English oak for inspiration, Ondrej appears to have chosen something like a corkscrew willow or a coastal tea tree. The smooth areas of the bowl are beautiful too, though, being covered in bird’s-eye briar patterns and a brown-sugar stain. The design is completed by a tasteful green ebonite stem and a cap at the base of the shank for easy cleaning. New product: Mastro Geppetto Rusticated Cherrywood, Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked Mastro Geppetto pipes are made by the Italian workshop brand Ser Jacopo. One could call them Ser Jacopo’s series of ‘affordable’ pipes, and while this would be correct purely from the standpoint of price, it wouldn’t be entirely fair to them in other regards. Geppetto pipes are hand made from the same high-grade briar as Ser Jacopo pipes, but the former do not use the plateau cuts that the latter does, which are more expensive; Geppetto pipes also tend to be simpler shapes, meaning they do not require the use of the highly-technical flexible drilling machinery that Ser Jacopo’s wilder shapes do. One thing I really like about Ser Jacopo’s Geppetto pipes is the wider variety of finishes they explore. For example, while I’ve categorized this Geppetto as a “rusticated” pipe, that doesn’t really do it justice. That’s not to say that rusticated pipes aren’t nice, but this one is arguably a “figural” design, given that it has been carved to resemble tree bark. Given that the pipe’s shape is that of a cherrywood – i.e., a forward-leaning sitter cut to resemble the trunk of a cherry tree, along with the old French pipes that were made from these trunks – I presume the matching of these two design elements was deliberate. In any case, it’s a great looking pipe, with some extra flair added by a cumberland-style lucite stem. This Geppetto is also completely unsmoked, having come to us via our trade-in program. New product: Ardor Urano 2023 Bent Bulldog, Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked - $350 Like many Italian workshop brands, Ardor pipes are a family affair. The name itself is an acronym of Angelo Rovera and Dorelio Rovera, father and son pipe-makers who created the brand in 1972. The Rovera family’s history with pipes goes back much further, however, as Angelo’s own father, Francesco, had previously established the Sociedade Rovera pipe company with his brothers in 1911. All Ardor pipes are completely hand-made from briar that has been seasoned for at least 4-5 years, and the brand is noteworthy for its playful and innovative approaches to design. As a result, Ardor pipes are both quintessentially Italian, while also being somewhat different, having a style that is wholly their own. I’ve categorized this pipe as a bulldog, but I’ve done so because the shape of this Ardor doesn’t have an established name. It shows parallels with the “surfing bulldog” and “eskimo” shapes carved by Tom Eltang and many other artisans, but it isn’t exactly one of those either. What it does that is comparable to those shapes is that it warps and stretches the familiar lines of a bulldog; the shank has four sides, but it is also wider than it is tall; these sides also do not dissipate completely when they meet the bowl, resulting in a “lip” that ultimately runs parallel to the bottom of the pipe’s rim section, where bead-lines would traditionally be placed. It is a bold design, but it’s also highly ergonomic, as the concave recession that runs around the bowl, between the two lips, slides perfectly between the thumb and fingers. Whoever said that form and function was a binary choice? This Ardor is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating from the Rovera workshop. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. Details: Length: 5.8″ / 147.3mm Bowl Width: 0.86 / 21.84mm Bowl Depth: 1.64″ / 41.65mm Weight: 1.9oz / 56g 👉🏽👉🏽Pipe Link: https://nuel.ink/zIy7fN #pipesmoking #pipes #tobaccopipe #pipesmoker #pipetobacco #tobacco #smokingpipe #briarpipe #briar #smoking #pipemaker #pipecollector #artisanpipes #mbsd

Want to see how FORM AT WOOD makes wooden panels? Here’s a look inside! Hey! I’d love to share a bit about how we create our products. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed watching TV shows about how things are made, so maybe there’s someone here who’s curious about how we craft our wooden panels. So, let’s get into it: Once we have a finalized design, approved by the client, we jump right into making the panels. Here’s how the process works: 1️⃣ Step 1: Wood Selection Every piece of wood we choose is selected with a purpose, knowing it will become part of someone’s home and story. We do this with care, sourcing only from sustainable suppliers and recognizing that each board is unique, with its own grain pattern. 2️⃣ Step 2: The Workshop With the wood selected, the real work begins. Our workshop comes alive with the hum of saws and the fresh scent of wood in the air. Each piece is cut, roughened, and then carefully hand-sanded to perfection. 3️⃣ Step 3: The Finishing Touches As the wooden panels take shape, they move into the hands of our finishing experts. With the same gentle strokes as a painter, they apply oils that seep into the wood, protecting it and bringing out its natural beauty. 4️⃣ Step 4: The Final Polish & Packaging Before any panel leaves our workshop, it goes through one final transformation. Polished to a smooth satin finish, it’s ready for its next journey. We pack it carefully, and it starts its trip from our hands to the client’s home. Words don’t always do it justice, so feel free to check out the video below and see the process in action! #formatwood #productionprocess #production #woodpanels
