Driving Compassion: Partnering with BGC to Support Dementia Care Through our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club (BGC), we are able to provide many of our day program clients with transportation to and from our program throughout the week. Drivers are an extension of our specialized dementia team and, as such, receive a hands-on training day in our day program. Our goal is to offer all BGC bus drivers this educational day, which includes: • An overview of dementia, including common signs and symptoms. • An opportunity to discuss common challenges or experiences they may encounter while transporting our clients. • A tour of our program and the chance to observe how our staff interact with clients in the day program setting. On average, we run one to two training days per month, and the feedback from drivers has been incredible. Many leave their training with a newfound respect and understanding of what our program provides for our clients. They also report an increased level of comfort in managing situations that may arise on their bus and a better understanding of how to provide a dementia-friendly experience for our clients. We are so incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Boys and Girls Club and their compassionate staff, who support our clients with their transportation needs. #DementiaCare #CommunityPartnership #DrivingCompassion #MakingADifference #SupportiveCommunities

Even in the early stage discussions of increasing user pay in aged care, the national conversation appears to be already having an impact. Despite not being our target audience at all, Community Home Australia is already receiving enquiries for full fee for service admissions (our first user pay guest will be moving in soon) and we have had 5 new private pay members join our programs in the last 3 days. While the sector is heartily applauding the introduction of more user pay to fill the coffers, are they actually inadvertently starting the great movement away from institutional care? There is not a nursing home in the country that can match us for staffing ratios, educational standards, community connectedness, meaningful engagement or person centred care. Clearly people don't mind paying, but expect something more than mediocrity and institutionalisation. With the NHS reporting that 78% of people entering residential aged care for respite (short term accommodation) never return home and go on to need long term residential aged care, we need to move towards alternative models of care. Their conclusion is that institutional aged care is disabling and not the right place for people to receive short term care. Maybe its time we started bolstering community based respite services in Australia to keep people from being institutionalised in the first place and stop us travelling down the same path as the UK. Community Home Australia has been offering emergency and planned respite for people living with younger onset dementia in the ACT for over 2 years now and have a steady demand for this service, particularly emergency respite when a carer is at their wits end and can no longer cope. Respite keeps people out of acute care hospitals and institutional aged care by providing support to carers and families so they can continue to provide a valuable service. We can accommodate people in crisis with as little as two hours notice, build a support package around them and offer stays from one night to two weeks. #respitecare #carersupport #dementia Dementia Australia Anika Wells Nicole Smith Carers ACT COTA Australia Bill Shorten

Been a caregiver most of my life. Caring for others has a cost when we don’t say no. Or when no is not an acceptable response. Before saying yes it’s ok to pause. To check what you might be saying no too. To help others accept no as your healthy response. Creating a world where Caregivers are healthy Begins when we empower the use and acceptance Of healthy boundaries and the word No. Saying yes to a get together, More tasks and responsibilities Means less energy to care. Empowering caregivers to say no Means more energy to give good quality of care To those that depend on their caregiving. Accepting No as a Caregiver response Means less stress, overwhelm, illness, disconnect. Empowering and creating a space for all to be healthy. Establishing and creating a world Where Caregivers thrive and are healthy Begins with hearing, accepting and encouraging “No” How will you help create a space for Caregivers To thrive, have plenty of energy, healthy boundaries And spaces where the use of No is acceptable? How can you contribute to a world where Caregivers Are also cared for?

🌟Word of the Day - UNDERSTANDING🌟 Understanding is more than just a word; it's a powerful skill that allows us to comprehend and appreciate the meaning and importance of our experiences and interactions. It's the key to effective communication, learning, and decision-making. In our roles as carers, understanding becomes an essential tool in our toolkit. It empowers us to grasp the unique needs, emotions, and circumstances of each individual under our care, enabling us to provide personalised support that makes a difference. By fostering understanding, we create a nurturing environment that ensures our residents' comfort, security, and well-being. But our commitment doesn't stop there! Our understanding extends to the families and friends of our residents, who trust us to care for their loved ones. We strive to reassure them that their cherished family members are in capable and compassionate hands. Understanding also aligns with the CQC's Single Assessment Framework, especially in the "Caring" category. By demonstrating patience, empathy, and a profound awareness of our residents' emotional and physical needs, we can cultivate an environment that promotes compassion and enhances quality of life. Let's commit to delivering care guided by understanding! Whether it's a comforting touch, a listening ear, or simply going the extra mile, our actions have the power to brighten someone's day and instil hope. Remember, the understanding we nurture isn't just about tasks completed; it's reflected in the hearts touched, smiles shared, and the positive impact we create. Let's approach each day to deepen our understanding and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents, their families, and friends. 💚 #LangdaleCareHomes #WeCare #UnderstandingCare #PositiveDifference #CompassionateCare #MakingADifference #WordOfTheDay #langdalecarehomesuk #WeCare #NursingHome #EverydayIsDifferent #CareGivers #DementiaCare #carehomesuk #ResidentialCareHome #DementiaFriendly #carehomeactivities #carehomeactivitiesmatter #socialcaresuccess #KeepingResidentsActive #socialengagement

For many families, moving a loved one to assisted living is a big decision. While it changes caregiving roles, especially if your family member has difficulty with daily tasks, it also helps individuals maintain independence with needed support. 🌟 Gratitude & Inspiration 🌟 Yesterday was a truly special day for my daughter at her school! She had the honour of meeting the incredible Chinonso Fidelis Egemba who not only taught CPR but also inspired young minds about the importance of health. As a caregiver and nursing assistant, I've always believed in the power of education when it comes to health awareness, especially for our children. Seeing my daughter excitedly share her experience with Chinonso Fidelis Egemba and proudly show me the autograph he signed for me reminded me of the impact education can have on shaping young minds. Being a caregiver isn't just a profession for me; it's a passion rooted in love and compassion. As a mother, I am committed to instilling in my daughter the value of prioritizing health and well-being. Thank you, Chinonso Fidelis Egemba for your dedication to educating our youth and for taking the time to inspire future caregivers and health advocates. Together, let's continue to empower our children with the knowledge they need to lead healthy and fulfilling lives! 💖 #HealthEducation #Gratitude #Inspiration
