The Brain and Memory Care Lab of the SCU Healthcare Innovation and Design Program is focused on innovations for dementia care with the support of Maude's Ventures. The research we have done around caregiver needs and technology use will be presented at the Gerontological Society of America (GSA) 2024 annual meeting Nov. 14, led by Patti Simone (she/they) with student Nora Reder. The research showed us that most people did not how to find or use digital solutions that could potentially ease the persistent challenges of caregiving. To more effectively use technology to support family caregivers, we encourage these strategies to bridge that gap: Age-inclusive software design to help with care tasks and self-care, especially related to emotional struggles and problem-solving. Access to digital tech centers where caregivers can get assistance early on and often. Equitable access to the tools and resources to help PLWD and their caregivers. The team that contributed to this work over the years is expansive and could not have occurred in isolation. The leadership of Quentin Orem and Prashanth Asuri has been key. The support of donors like Bob Breshock and Kristina and Mark Grey has helped grow the program. Last week, I had the honor of giving the keynote speech to the Arizona Assisted Living Homes Association. Here are 3 takeaways I shared during my presentation titled: "Unlocking Your Facilities Potential For Increased Impact, Income, and Innovation." First, if your facility accepts people with dementia, it is your responsibility to ensure that your staff is properly trained in dementia care. Second, dementia care training isn't a one-time event, it's an ongoing process. And third, marketing your facility is really just educating a potential future customer on whether your facility is a good fit for their needs. Here's to a future where our care facilities don't just say they care for people with dementia, but know how to care for people with dementia. This should be the standard, not the exception. It was so refreshing to be in a group of people with such large roles in dementia care who feel the same. #careblazers #dementiasupport #dementiacare #dementia #assistedliving #memorycare

According to Alzheimer's Research UK 944,000 people in the UK are living with Dementia, and it is predicted that 1 in 2 of us will be affected by Dementia during our lifetime, either by caring for a loved one, or developing it ourselves. We know how difficult it can be to live with this condition and also how challenging it can be for those closest to you. That's why our carers can offer much needed support, caring for you in the comfort and safety of your own home, where the environment is known and offers a sense of security. By giving loved ones time to rest and continue with their daily lives, we are able to offer support for all the family, easing any strains and allowing time for the most important part of your relationship. We are here to help. Care, it's what we do 💜 #Care #DementiaCare #CareInTheCommunity #Dementia #AlzheimersUK #MedwayCare #SittingbourneCare #SwaleCare #HealthCare #HomeCareProvider

Transitioning to Memory Care with Care and Compassion 🏡 Moving from assisted living to memory care is a significant step, and it requires careful planning and communication. A good community ensures that families are kept informed and involved throughout the process. One outstanding example is a community where memory care apartments mirror the setup of assisted living units, making the transition smoother for those experiencing confusion. It's all about maintaining safety and well-being. Let's find the right environment that prioritizes thoughtful, compassionate dementia care. #DementiaCare #SeniorLiving #SmoothTransitions #OasisSeniorAdvisors
