I'm extremely positive about the economic outlook, both for the wider New Zealand, but most particularly Canterbury. I'm finally starting to see an increase in residential construction numbers, and I believe that the underlying economy and positive population growth for the Region will see the market boom again in 2025 and 2026. The same can't necessarily be said for the Commercial sector. Yes, in some parts of the city, retail demand has increased, and there are signs that new commercial construction is underway...but not much. There are plenty of vacant "car park" sites right across the central city...these show that there is no viable commercial opportunity for the owner or developers. Although I remain positive and its great to see progress...I think that a commercial recovery could still be some time off.
