🌊 MedPAN's participation in the EU Mission: Restore Our Ocean and Waters 🌿To voice higher the messages and needs of Mediterranean Marine Protected Area (MPA) managers, MedPAN is taking part in the Mission Ocean - an ambitious European initiative aiming to restore and protect our oceans, rivers, lakes, and wetlands by 2030. MedPAN has signed its Charter and is an active member of the Mediterranean Lighthouse. In addition, MedPAN has also joined the #EUBlueParks Community, a dynamic platform for EU Member State authorities, practitioners, researchers and stakeholders to collaborate on marine protection across Europe. Through this collaboration, we aim to further share the Mediterranean challenges and experiences on management and protection of Mediterranean MPAs, ensuring we are effectively promoting sustainable coastal and marine practices. Together, with the support of the Mission Ocean and as part of the #EUBlueParks Community, we can foster science-based conservation, share best practices, and accelerate the restoration of marine ecosystems across the region. 👇 More details on this initiative and how to get involved on the fact sheet below and via this link: https://lnkd.in/e6tW-pGK #MarineProtection #BlueParks #EUmission

Reflecting on the First EASTME Conference: Collaboration for a Sustainable Marine Future Last week, Ian Wilson, of the Asteroceras Group, remotely addressed the first East Marine Ecosystem EASTME conference in Lincoln. The EASTME conference aimed to unite marine conservationists, citizen scientists, researchers, and managers to share knowledge and foster collaboration across the region. Key topics included pollution, coastal and estuarine habitats, #marinemammals, #seabirds, Marine Protected Areas (#MPAs), water quality, and more. This event aimed to enhance our understanding and guide future monitoring and management of the marine environment. The conference was part of the Natural Capital approaches at the LAND-SEA INTERFACE (LSI) project, led by the Environment Agency under Defra’s Marine Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (mNCEA) programme. It aimed to build networks and relationships among marine and coastal communities, including citizen scientists, academics, managers, policymakers, industry, dedicated volunteers, and the public. BSL looks forward to continued involvement in this conversation and contributing to the sustainable management and protection of the Eastern Marine Ecosystems. #MarineConservation #EASTME #AestrocerasGroup #MarineEcosystem #NaturalCapital #LincolnConference

🕰️It’s HELCOM Through History time! 🕰️ The initial HELCOM Holistic Assessment (HOLAS) of 2010 provided the first ecosystem health assessment of the entire Baltic Sea for the period from 2003 to 2007, also providing information on the associated benefits and costs to society. HOLAS give a comprehensive overview of the ecosystem health of the entire Baltic Sea. These major assessments assist the region’s environmental managers and decision-makers, so that they can base their work on sound, up-to-date knowledge of the status of the sea. 🌍 #HELCOMThroughHistory

The OECS participated in the Building Resilience Through Education and Action Youth Forum on December 3 at the Malcolm Guishard Recreational Park in Nevis. Students and participants had the opportunity to learn about two major EU-funded projects currently being implemented by the OECS: 🌱 Integrated Landscape Management Project (ILM): Aiming to conserve terrestrial biodiversity across our beautiful islands. 🐠 BioSPACE Project: Focusing on the conservation of marine and coastal biodiversity in the Caribbean region. Participants also experienced a thrilling virtual reality dive, bringing greater awareness to the importance of preserving our marine environments. Together, we're empowering youth and communities to build a sustainable and resilient future! 💚 #OECSILM #OECSBioSPACE #OECSEnvironmentalSustainability
