Bio-manufacturing - making products using biological systems as living factories or by using biological resources, rich in carbon atoms - is not everyone’s cup of tea. Abundant bio-resources, such as agricultural residues and municipal organic wastes, are notoriously unpredictable and often variable. Biological systems - such as yeast used in fermenters - can be notoriously sensitive to operating and environmental factors. But, compared to traditional chemical process driven manufacturing, bio-manufacturing promises to be relatively benign from an environmental impact standpoint and extremely precise in terms of selectivity. Bio-processes generate less waste, use milder process conditions and typically require less energy than chemical alternatives. Events like Global Bio India are harbingers of this transition. Remarkably well attended and superbly organised, with an impressive exhibition of offerings from corporates, small and medium enterprises, Startups, government agencies and facilitating organisations from all over the world, it underscored India’s commitment to being a serious player on the world bio-manufacturing stage.

Why are foreign investors losing out in Biotech? Because organizations like DBT BIRAC are already nurturing India’s early-stage #biotech startups! 🌱 While attending Global Bio India india 2024 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi (12-14 September 2024), I observed how Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and other government-backed organizations are providing substantial support to early-stage startups. This proactive nurturing accelerates their growth, making them less dependent on external funding at the early stages. While Indian private investors are actively participating and supporting these startups, foreign investors have a unique window of opportunity. BIRAC's support and the rapid advancement of these startups mean that the time for foreign investors to engage is now. By waiting, they risk missing out on prime early-stage investments, as these startups are advancing quickly and might become less accessible or more competitive. The event showcased India’s booming biotech and healthcare ecosystem, highlighting its rapid rise as a global leader in innovation. With a mega international congregation of stakeholders—regulatory bodies, ministries, SMEs, large industries, bioclusters, research institutes, investors, and startups—Global Bio-India 2024 demonstrated the vibrant opportunities within India’s biotech sector. For foreign investors, now is the critical moment to seize these opportunities before they evolve further. The future of biotech in India is bright, and acting now is key to capturing significant growth and high returns. Last but not the least Kudos to the showman Mr. Jitendra Kumar and his team at DBT BIRAC for their admirable efforts and successfully organising the Global Bio India 2024. Looking forward to the 2025 version with much more Innovations and excitement. ➡️ #GlobalBioIndia2024 #biotechnology #BIRAC #IndiaBioTech #startups #healthcareinnovation #innovation #foreign #investment #researchanddevelopment #opportunity #bio #india
