The State Rehabilitation Council (SRC) supports, advises, and collaboratively problem-solves with its partner, The New Jersey Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services (DVRS). The SRC and DVRS are seeking the public’s input about topical issues impacting consumers, vendor communication, and dialogue with employers. We are particularly interested in hearing from people with disabilities, family members of people with disabilities, educators, and others about their lived experience with transition planning and/or services. We want to learn about the issues, concerns, strengths, and suggestions you may have about transition from school to work in our state generally, and as it pertains to DVRS specifically. Transforming Lives, One Patient at a Time Working with OPWDD (Office for People With Developmental Disabilities) patients has been one of the most profound experiences of my career in the homecare industry. It’s not just about providing care—it’s about building trust, fostering independence, and being part of a community that uplifts others in their most vulnerable moments. Every patient I’ve met has taught me resilience, patience, and the power of connection. Their stories remind me why I chose this path: to make a difference where it matters most. These moments have reshaped my purpose, making it clear that homecare isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. Each day, I’m reminded that care extends beyond physical needs; it’s about dignity, respect, and hope. I’m incredibly grateful to be part of an industry that allows me to witness and contribute to life-changing impacts, one person at a time at @Anchor Health. Let’s continue to innovate, inspire, and make every moment count for the communities we serve. To those considering a career in this space: your work will not just touch lives—it will transform your own. 📸 Picture from the 2024 Queens Council on Developmental Disabilities (QCDD) Family Support Resource Fair! #Homecare #PurposeDriven #MakingADifference #OPWDD #SpecialNeedsAnchor Health Home Care

Can you get a government job with no competition? It's possible. This is with a Schedule A letter. You could be eligible and not know it. Do you have a persistent ailment or mental condition? Many times if you ask your medical provider if you’re eligible for a Schedule A letter, they'll have no idea what you are talking about. Instead, you can look at the SF 256 and review the list of dozens of disabilities people commonly claim in the federal government. Many of these disabilities impact people on a daily basis but they never get a Schedule A letter. Some examples include: ➡Depression ➡Anxiety ➡Diabetes ➡ADHD ➡Speech impairment If you have a eligible disability, you should google search “Schedule A example letter” and print it. Then schedule an appointment with your medical provide or rehabilitation counselor. The signed Schedule A letter opens you up to 3,262 different government jobs today and the option of using a Schedule A coordinator. Also, if you are a military veteran with a VA disability rating then you should be able to also get a Schedule A letter too. Don't confuse the two hiring paths, they’re different. #hiring #usajobs #govtjobs

Pam Dewey, our very own blog writer, wrote an article for MinnPost talking about why Direct Support Professionals are so important to the health and safety of our communities. With 1 out of 4 adults living with a disability in Minnesota, the DSP's help these people live fulfilling lives. But with unreasonable wages and lacking benefits, among other issues, the retention and hiring of these care takers is decreasing. To read the article and learn why people like the Direct Support Professionals are so important and why there is a shortage, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gmUPMXPy
