Why The Police Should Get Our Support
Sure, there are some bad police - I think you will find that when those people are discovered, the whole force is ashamed of them too. It belittles all the good work that the rest do. In every line of work, someone isn't 'good'. We put the police on a pedestal and whilst that is for a good reason, there has to be balance as they are human like the rest of us.
Please take the 12 minutes it takes to listen to this British bobby tell you a bit about his work. It's made by a son interviewing his dad.

When there is a vehicle accident or a fire or a noise disturbance, we look to the police to sort the issue. When I was in a family car wreck age 12, I'd just started at secondary school. A lorry (aka truck) was distracted and ran into the back of our Peugeot 504. The police, fire and ambulance service attended. A London cab hit me on my motorbike by London Bridge as he was doing a U turn. The police saw it on camera and called the ambulance. If there is a wildfire, they are directing traffic, knocking on doors... I think they are fab because they deal with a lot of tough stuff, put their lives on the line.
At the school shooting in our neighborhood, the police responded rapidly and quickly brought the situation to a close. I would have preferred to have seen a couple of things done differently as I'm opinionated, so that will always be the case. Being able to give feedback is important. Every situation is different, and nothing will be perfect. I am very thankful to all the officers who rushed to the scene and the staff who worked diligently in the background.
Of course, policing isn't all crime related, there are plenty of other jobs which go on. Dispatch, administration staff, community policing for schools, older community and the community at large; traffic control, animal ordinance, emergency services, prison services and more. The scope varies according to the size of the department and funding.
Next time you wish to knock them. Please stop. Was it just the one person or is the problem larger? Consistent standards across the country could bring about positive change. For that to happen constructive response and reporting as well as consistent standards across the country not just State to State or county to county. For that to happen, it needs the support and encouragement of the people.
The difference between a British bobby and a cop is a gun. If America could 'lay down its arms' the country would be a safer place. CHILDREN would be alive.
Hunting is fine as long as it is done swiftly in season and for a purpose i.e. food, vicious animal... People who kill for fun should go to prison e.g. Wyoming man who taped the snout of a wolf in a bar and then hit it with his snowmobile to kill it.
