I am thrilled to share that I've recently completed an enriching internship with the Economic Advisory team at EY. Over the past two months, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of challenging projects that honed my analytical skills and deepened my understanding of public policy and economic advisory. - In-Depth Analysis: I conducted a comprehensive analysis of the time taken, documents required, and the total number of steps across 36 states and UTs for the approval of services as outlined in the BRAP Action Guide. This work not only enhanced my research capabilities but also allowed me to contribute to tangible improvements in the service delivery process. Further, I conducted ITI Trainee Placement analysis to understand the current placement status and the role apprenticeships play for such placements. - Strategic Presentations: I prepared and presented detailed reports and presentations on ITI Trainee Placement and the manufacturing sector in India, providing insights that were pivotal in guiding strategic decisions. Strengths Showcased: - Analytical Prowess: My ability to dissect complex data and extract actionable insights was key to driving strategic recommendations throughout my internship. Whether it was analyzing the nuances of state-level reforms or managing intricate TDS calculations, I consistently applied a data-driven approach to deliver results. - Attention to Detail: In the realm of economic advisory, accuracy is paramount. My meticulous nature ensured that every report and presentation was not only informative but also precise, contributing to the credibility of the work I produced. - Effective Communication: Translating complex data into clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders was a critical aspect of my role. I honed my ability to communicate effectively, whether through written reports or dynamic presentations, ensuring that my analyses had a real impact. - Adaptability and Learning: The fast-paced environment at EY required me to continuously learn and adapt. I embraced each challenge as an opportunity to grow, whether it was mastering new analytical tools or understanding the intricacies of public policy and economic frameworks. I am incredibly grateful to the team at EY for their guidance and support, and I am excited to apply the skills and knowledge I've gained to future opportunities in the field of public policy and economic advisory. #EY #internship #publicpolicy #economicadvisory #TDS #BRAP #professionaldevelopment #careerjourney

As my internship at PwC comes to a close, here's some advice that I would like to share. 1. Find learning opportunities in otherwise "mindless" tasks During your internship, you're more than likely going to receive tasks that don't have a huge critical thinking aspect. These tasks may feel "mindless" and tedious, but if you look at it in a different way, you can find a learning opportunity. Take these tasks as an opportunity to learn the process behind a tax or audit engagement. Learn the terms associated with your field of work. 2. Network, Network, Network You never know what could happen in the future and who you could be reaching out to for a potential job. Take advantage of the situation that you've worked so hard to be in. You obviously know how to network, you've landed an internship in accounting. These people can become some of the most valuable connections you ever make. 3. Ask questions I know this may sound cliche, but it's truly one of the best things you can do as an intern. Asking questions allows you to truly soak up as much information as you can. What you want to get out of your internship is what you are willing to put into it. Instead of focusing your questions on how to merely get a task done, ask questions on the "why" behind a process. This will allow you to learn a lot more at a much faster clip. 4. Upskill yourself I'm a huge believer in the fact that you are in complete charge of your career. There are going to be times during your internship where you will have a lighter load of work than usual. Instead of waiting around for the next task, branch out. Ask if you can help on other engagements or take advantage of the exceptional learning opportunities provided by your firm. This will prove to be highly beneficial in your future. 5. Find where you can add value to your team Even as an intern, you can find areas where you can add value to your team. You are uniquely situated in a generation that is growing up with very advanced technology. Take advantage of it. Learn how to become a better planner or communicator. Learn how to read data, identify trends, interpret the trends, and add value to your team. 6. Do all the little things right Do all of your compliance tasks ASAP, accept or decline meeting invites, attend intern socials/company events, respond to emails in a timely manner, and schedule routine meetings with your coaches. This is a very easy way to show that you are responsible, have good time management skills, and you are eager to complete your tasks. Be an asset to your team, not a liability. This is not an exhaustive list, but these are a few items that stuck out to me and led me to a very rewarding experience this summer at PwC Milwaukee. I cannot thank my team (Susan Frey, Andrew Modder, CPA, Elijah Mapes, Alexa Peter, CPA, Matt Jager, Jonathan H., Marcos Quiroz, CPA) enough for their willingness and eagerness to teach me the reigns, even when they were extremely busy.

🚀IEUK: 2024 Finance, Professional Services & Consulting Part Two The past four days I have been participating in this incredible internship which has been a fantastic opportunity to gain insights of the industry, challenge myself, and network! I cannot wait to explore the additional resources these generous companies have provided and I thank everyone involved. ⭐️Day Three BT Group’s Sara Jones started off the morning with her astonishing career journey which epitomises being adaptable and spreading kindness. Ryan Mairs session on mental health demonstrated mental resilience and overcoming personal circumstances to achieve one’s goals. Next was the Graduate Panel with Sadie Askham, Beatrix Popa, Mat Turner, and Ruby Walter helping us all understand how experiences like IEUK aided their careers. The last session I attended was with BrightNetwork Alumni Aga Knopp who reassured me that even in such a competitive environment soft skills and genuine interest still always shine through. Throughout the day I completed the auditing work sample which was challenging yet so rewarding. PwC UK have created a phenomenal programme for students which tested my numeracy and problem solving skills as well as my evaluation and critical thinking skills. ⭐️Day Four Primarily focused upon submitting my work sample and engaging in self reflection as well as peer feedback. Fareeha Adnan joined us once again to go through a model answer and I was delighted to see I demonstrate some natural talent with a fairly accurate answer. This amazing internship then ended with a talk by Melissa Richardson from British Airways and spoke on the importance of keeping open minded and maintaining versatility. For the final time Philip Yarrow and James Uffindell congratulated us and shared some inspirational quotes on being tactful and maintaining motivation. Truly a perfect note to end on. Thank you once again to everyone who attended, I have learnt so much and I cannot wait to put it all to good use with any events I have coming up!

"Girish, you've worked with 3 different companies during 3 years of your internship—doesn’t that raise concerns about your stability?" This question has followed me into nearly every interview, and yet, I still find it perplexing that my professional choices during internship could be seen as a mark of instability. When I first stepped into the world of Audit, I was resolute—I envisioned myself as a future partner, deeply embedded in that very office. But life, as it often does, had other plans. After a year, I found myself captivated by the intricate dynamics of M&A Tax, and so, I took a leap, transferring to immerse myself in that specialized field. Once again, my journey took another turn, this time towards Management Consulting, spurred on by the lucrative pay and the path chosen by top rankers. With each transition, I've yet to find a single reason to regret my decisions. I am acutely aware that, once I qualify as a Chartered Accountant, my career choices will likely become more fixed. The decisions I make post-qualification will have a lasting impact on my professional trajectory. So why not explore during my internship? Why not take this unique opportunity to discover which field truly resonates with me? Certainly, staying within one field for the entirety of an internship can offer deep expertise—something that’s undeniably valuable. But for me, this phase is not solely about mastering a single domain. It's also about broadening my horizons, tasting different fields, and, most importantly, understanding what I genuinely want to pursue for the rest of my career. Consider this: graduates and postgraduates often have multiple internships spanning different industries over a few months, yet their stability is rarely questioned. Why should it be any different for CA articles? I believe CA interns are often expected to meet the same standards as full-time employees, all while being compensated at a rate that sometimes falls below the minimum wage for unskilled labour. I apologize for the bluntness, but it’s the reality :( Internship is also the time to experiment—not just with various roles, but with our own aspirations and potential. And while sticking to one field to gain immense expertise is invaluable, so too is the opportunity to explore and discover the right path for the long term. #ca #caarticleship #cajobs

MAN5060: Competencies - The PwC Experience After today's lesson on competencies by Linlan Huang , I attended a PwC event. Two of their employees kindly spoke to attendees about the various opportunities that were open to current students and those who were due to graduate in the near future. Focusing on the job description and the specific competencies were the main takeaways. Know what you're applying for and research the role and the company extremely well (!) Coincidentally, for my MAN5060 assignment,I have to choose specific competencies and provide evidence of achieving them. Nice link between something I'm studying and the summer internship I'm going to apply for 😃 Another thing made me think (from uni all the way back home on the bus). That was self-belief. A year ago, I spoke with people from PwC who came to BCU at a career event. I knew they were one of the biggest companies in the UK,but at the time I didn't believe I had any chance. What has changed? I became the top-performing student in 1st yr of the HRM course. That in itself resulted in a change in how I think about myself and my career opportunities. I'm daring to dream BIG! There's fierce competition, which the speakers reminded us of. Ok. I'm not afraid of failure. I would regret not applying simply because thousands of other students are also hungry for a summer internship. I believe I have as good a chance as anyone else ☺️ Wiktoria Garczarczyk Hansa B. Morgan Williams - dare to dream and make the impossible possible!
