A staggering 2.9 billion records of personal information for people in the United States, the UK, and Canada have been leaked on a hacking forum. Records include sensitive data like names, social security numbers, and physical addresses. The source of the breach appears to be National Public Data, a company that compiles and sells personal data for background checks and investigations. It is very likely that some of your personal information has been compromised and may be leveraged by threat-actors. It’s critical to monitor your credit for any suspicious activity and remain vigilant against phishing attempts. Moving forward, we should assume our information is out there. This is why identity is the new perimeter and why every business should have or should be establishing an IAM program with the support of experts in the field.
