Am I the only one that sees this as a good thing. 1. Now that it has all been exposed, then we don't have to walk around all secretive about our SSN. 2. Maybe the government will learn about identity and start taking it seriously and issue real IDs and separate benefits tracking numbers with identity numbers. 3. SSN were never intended to be used how they are today. The use was a total stop-gap. Just like our enterprises and security Identity is a hard nut to crack and secure. So the main question is, are we actually going to see our government make and effort to address this problem. My guess is not in my lifetime until a few elected officials are impacted. Anyone struggling with there Identity Strategy, feel free to shoot me a DM. #identity #cybersecurity #cyber #identitytheft #infosec https://lnkd.in/eAByK2js

A staggering 2.9 billion records of personal information for people in the United States, the UK, and Canada have been leaked on a hacking forum. Records include sensitive data like names, social security numbers, and physical addresses. The source of the breach appears to be National Public Data, a company that compiles and sells personal data for background checks and investigations. It is very likely that some of your personal information has been compromised and may be leveraged by threat-actors. It’s critical to monitor your credit for any suspicious activity and remain vigilant against phishing attempts. Moving forward, we should assume our information is out there. This is why identity is the new perimeter and why every business should have or should be establishing an IAM program with the support of experts in the field. I just came across an article about hackers stealing billions of Social Security numbers in the US, and it got me thinking about how we handle our data security here in the UK. Whilst we don’t have Social Security numbers, the issue is the same—our personal and business data is a major target for cybercriminals. As someone who works in IT support, here’s a bit of advice: make sure you’re doing the basics to protect yourself - simple things like using unique passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and keeping your software up to date. These are just basic things anyone can do, but they are really effective in protecting your business. Check out the article below and let me know what you think. https://lnkd.in/evUzwkjc Also, if you run a business and you’re looking for help with your cyber security strategy, call JamCrackers on 01525 33160 or visit the website at www.jamcrackers.co.uk #CyberSecurity #DataProtection #ITSupport #UKBusiness #DigitalSafety #LeightonBuzzard #BusinessIT

ALERT --> Data breaches are on the rise, and with every breach, we're losing ground in the fight against fraud. The reality is stark: most fraud occurs from compromised ID data, which is often the result of inadequate security practices. The article attached highlights how hackers exploit stored sensitive information, leading to repeated identity theft. If businesses and regulators continue facilitating the practice of collecting and storing ID without addressing the security risks, they're fueling the problem. It's time to adopt data minimisation, digital credentials, and advanced security measures like multi-factor authentication. Companies have a responsibility to be part of the solution—those who don’t are contributing to the ongoing crisis. The takeaway is clear: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem! Every organisation must rethink its data handling practices to protect customers and help win the fight against fraud. #CyberSecurity #DataBreach #FraudPrevention #DigitalIdentity #RiskManagement Read more: https://lnkd.in/gBZu3954
