🚨 Important Update on Food Safety Standards: Listeria monocytogenes 🚨 The European Commission has introduced COMMISSION REGULATION (EU) 2024/2895, which amends Regulation (EC) No 2073/2005 to strengthen food safety criteria for Listeria monocytogenes. Why does this matter? Listeria monocytogenes is one of the most dangerous foodborne pathogens, with a high fatality rate that poses a serious risk to public health. According to the European Food Safety Authority's latest report on zoonoses: Cases of listeriosis in humans within the EU increased by 15.9% in 2022 compared to 2021. The number of deaths from Listeria-related foodborne outbreaks in 2022 was among the highest reported in the last decade. This alarming upsurge underscores the urgent need for robust and consistent food safety measures throughout the food chain to protect consumers. The updated regulation aims to achieve precisely that. This is a critical reminder for all food industry stakeholders to reassess and enhance their compliance processes, ensuring that we collectively work towards mitigating such risks. Let’s keep food safety at the heart of everything we do!
