Happy 1 year of working in the UoL Sustainability team to me! 🥳 If one thing is for sure, working in HEI Sustainability teams is no walk in the park (although we advocate for students and staff to do exactly that!) It’s full-on and challenging because the work can never be completed, there is always more to be do: but that’s part of the reason it fills me with purpose. Some highlights include; · Conducting awareness and behaviour change campaigns to engage students and staff on waste, and sustainable living. · Designing new waste signage that is in the process of being rolled out across the University to help improve ease of recycling. ·  Working on a “team identity” branding, and seeing it come to life on our engagement stands with students and staff. ·  Working with different teams on multi-channel communications and projects. Collaboration is at the heart of embedding sustainability. … and on a personal note, all whilst managing an anxiety disorder which at times makes work challenging. But it’s going in a good direction. 😊 Bring on 2025, it's shaping up to a busy year!

As such, we’ve been working in partnership with Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd and The R&A, to pioneer efforts to encourage spectators to The Open golf Championship to make sustainable travel choices. This collaboration is part of our broader strategy to help address environmental sustainability in sports. "How did you get started in event sustainability?" It's a question I often hear that doesn't have a one-size-fits-all answer. Like choosing a career path, navigating the journey towards event sustainability is filled with twists and turns. Honestly, my journey has been anything but linear. Likewise, finding your footing in event sustainability requires exploration, experimentation, and a willingness to learn. Most of us go through the same learnings: → What sustainable materials can be used → Building a network of green suppliers → Figuring out who the sustainability champions are → Finding a place to start → Learning how to measure And now, I'm a passionate advocate for sustainable events, too. So, let's rethink the idea of having green events all figured out from the word 'Go'. Instead, let's embrace the journey, knowing each experience brings us closer to our goals.
