Title: Highlighting the Plight of Pashtuns: A Call for Justice and Equality In a deeply insightful article published by the Asian Human Rights Commission, Kahar Zalmay sheds light on the harrowing reality faced by the Pashtun community in Pakistan. Titled "The Case of Pashtun Genocide in the Country," Zalmay's piece meticulously outlines the systematic marginalization and violence inflicted upon Pashtuns, drawing parallels to the definition of genocide as outlined by the UN. Zalmay articulates the profound struggles of the Pashtun people, from cultural stigmatization to physical violence, exacerbated by state policies and media portrayal. He emphasizes the historical and ongoing injustices, citing examples of military operations, targeted killings, and the negative stereotyping perpetuated by mainstream media. His narrative underscores the urgent need for awareness, empathy, and action to address the deep-seated issues faced by Pashtuns. This article serves as a stark reminder of the resilience of the Pashtun community amidst adversity and a call to action for justice and equality. As we reflect on Zalmay's compelling words, let us recognize the importance of standing against discrimination and advocating for the rights of marginalized communities. 🔗 [Read the full article] (https://lnkd.in/ddpBQ-XT) #PashtunRights #HumanRights #SocialJustice #Equality #PashtunGenocide #KaharZalmay #AHRC

Iraq’s Law Makers Decide To Lower The Consent Age For Girls To 9 By Avani Bansal Are we moving forward or thousands of years back vis-a-vis women’s rights? Iraq’s Parliament is discussing a proposal to reduce the women’s consent age from 18 years to 9 years. This means that, if the law is passed, then women in Iraq could be legally married off at the age of nine years, with equally serious implications on their custody, inheritance, and related personal laws, alongside education and health. There was a time when women’s freedom movement in Iran was seen as an example by the rest of the world – but what we are witnessing today both in Iran and Iraq is a systemic dismantling of women’s rights. In 2022, there was an emergence of hope in the Kurdish ‘Jin, Jiyan Azadi’ slogan giving rise to the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom Movement’ after the tragic death of Jina Mahsa Amini. Amini, like Daryaei, was arrested by Iran’s morality police for wearing her hijab ‘improperly’ and subsequently died in custody. People world over, are now worried for Daryaei meeting the same fate. Some Notes from #Palestine on #Precariousness and #Family by Harcker (2011) 🔥🍉 Go check it out ! The first part of this special issue in solidarity with Palestine is out and #unpacked for you. In this paper, Harker (2011) shows how Butler's theory of precariousness, when including a #spatial dimension, can help us understand the ways in which the Palestinian family has been subjected to discursive objectification by colonial and occupying forces. Similarly, the findings demonstrate how the Palestinian family can serve as a source of resilience and #ethicalresistance to political violence, such as that imposed by the Israeli government on populations living in Gaza. 🍉 📸 Pictures taken from the wonderful archiving project : https://lnkd.in/e2PRAnZy #freepalestine #falestine #intersectionality #feministresearch #gender #politics #decolonizeyourmind https://lnkd.in/eHfUUrHP

Human rights are universal, indivisible, and inalienable. At Minority Watch, we believe that “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now” is more than a theme for this year; it is a call to action. We stand firm in the fight for dignity, equality, and justice for everyone, no matter who they are or who they love. This International Human Rights Day, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting and enforcing the rights of LGBTQI persons in Nigeria. The future we envision starts with the rights we demand today. Together, let us build a world where every human right is respected and upheld. #humanrightsday #ourrightsourfuturerightnow #equalityforall #minoritywatch
