One thing disgustful in a democracy is a government that is not representative of all in the use of government resources. Favouritism treatments? Best to set up favouritism resources for favouritism roles always. The future looks the favouritism way but daily, we must push to be fair in unearthing and rewarding talents with opportunities, to ensure fairness in justice delivery and systems and to promote accountability even if our relatives. Decided not to speak much on the other side, but the current U.S president surely leads the way in the justice system for accountability even when related to family. Any reason not to respect such an act? NB: Favouritism Different from Affirmative actions and the lines must be justified clearly in line with equality always ! #Africa #ResponsibleLeadership #Accountability #Equality

🌍 The Role of Religious Actors in Population Dynamics 🌍 We are excited to announce the #publication of our report on the two-year African Dialogues on Faith and Demography, which highlights the crucial role of religious actors in addressing Africa’s demographic challenges. Jointly created with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Religions for Peace International , Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany and the Berlin-Institut für Bevölkerung und Entwicklung, this report sheds light on how faith actors can be considered key partners in efforts to advance gender #equality, the demographic transition and sustainable #development. The report shares concrete examples of how religious leaders and organisations across Africa are promoting girls' education, family planning and youth #empowerment. Their contributions are vital in addressing the demographic changes that will shape the #future of the continent. Read the full report and discover how multi-religious engagement can play a transformative role in population #dynamics. 🔗 Link to the report: https://lnkd.in/ezdicRBg

Antiracism work has always been important work, so I will not use clichés like ‘Today’ or ‘Now more than ever.’ The fact remains that when you look around Europe, we are confronted with the mainstreaming of hate. Islamophobia, antisemitism, anti-Black racism, antigypsyism, anti-Asian hate, and anti-Latino hate are prevalent in ways that we could not have imagined 5 years ago. The gruesome murder of George Floyd was meant to be a watershed moment where, as a society, we collectively committed to combating hate and racism in all its forms and wherever it reared its ugly head. However, we are faced with the opposite. Those who preach hate now disguise their vitriol in anti-migrant discourse, liberal Islamophobia, and cultural preservation rhetoric. We cannot be deceived. Europe is a dangerous place for racialized and minoritised people. This is why we must engage our elected officials and civil society actors to ensure that Antiracism work is prioritized, funded, and supported. Our lives literally depend on this. The struggle is real, the battle is uphill, but we persevere because we must! Please, join our efforts. Disseminate this as widely as possible and engage your loved ones, friends, and colleagues. Together, let us rid society of racism! Can’t appreciate enough my colleagues Julie Pascoët and Nourhene M. who have been leading European Network Against Racism Aisbl (ENAR)’s efforts to reestablish the Antiracism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI) at the European Parliament.
Today, we are joined by Platform for Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), ILGA-Europe, Equinox: Racial Justice Initiative & 30+ organisations 📢 in urging MEPs and their political groups to ensure #ARDI continues its vital work advancing racial justice in the European Parliament. 📩 Read our joint statement: https://lnkd.in/eGmg5jBg European Roma Grassroots Organisations (ERGO) Network EAPN - European Anti Poverty Network Feminist Collective of Romani Gender Experts New Women Connectors #antiracism #racialjustice #EU

Our Programme Intern, Ishan Parasher, penned an article as part of the "Special Essay Series: LGBTIQ+ Persons and Women in Conflict and Transitional Justice" on Equal Asia Foundation's Medium. Ishan Parasher is entering his second year at the George Washington University Elliott School of International Affairs. He is working towards a BA in International Affairs with concentrations in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, and Security Policy. He used his security and conflict studies background to inform his research at the Equal Asia Foundation into developing more effective transitional justice structures to ensure lasting peace and center the needs of those most marginalized and impacted by war, namely women and the LGBTIQ+ community. He hopes to use these findings to continue his work towards creating lasting peace and promoting democratization and human rights in post-conflict societies through a career in the U.S. Government. "Chapter 1: Gendered & LGBTIQ+ Vulnerabilities in Conflict No type of crisis exposes discriminatory dynamics in a society more than conflict and war. The impacts of conflict are not evenly distributed across all communities. For a wide variety of reasons, conflicts will have disproportionate implications for select groups, namely women and girls and the LGBTIQ+ community. Each demographic community will experience a specific type of impact. However, women and the LGBTIQ+ community tend to experience the duality of conflict-related crises, that is, both targeted violence from state and non-state combatants, as well as inadvertent ramifications from the social and economic destruction that results from conflict," wrote Parasher. It seems so ironic that we are celebrating Human Rights Day today. So much poverty and still such unabating inequality. Fellow South Africans trying to live on R350 to feed families for a month and gender based violence continuing to prevail. As South Africans we all need to do so much more to make this a country - that genuinely is a Mecca for human rights - not a cardboard cutout of something called a 'Rainbow Nation'. It starts with getting to know one another, getting to understand where we are similar and how we are different, and understanding how to bridge those gaps so that we can meet one another as equals and understand the injustices in the lives of so many of our compatriots. Then we must work together to improve the situation. #Humanrightsday #SouthAfrica #democracy #DEIB #Humanrights2024

The #Gambia's #EndFGM hangs in the balance, with a potential compromise allowing medicalized procedures and for consenting adults. The ongoing masculinist restoration to reassert traditional gender roles exemplifies a global trend of regressing on #genderequality amidst a broader political climate of backlash. Weakening these laws makes it harder to fight #VAW. Progress on achieving #SDG5 is already alarmingly slow: ending #childmarriage could take 300 years, and closing the legal protection gap for women could take another 286 years at the current pace. Spotlight: The Gambia's experience underscores the critical need for Western donors and multilateral institutions to move beyond simply advocating for reforms. Since opposition forces often fight for reversals, sustainability strategies are crucial to ensure progress isn't eroded after initial support. My latest, “The Gambia may allow female genital mutilation again – another sign of a global trend eroding women’s rights,” for #TheConversation. #Genderequality #genderedpolitics #Africa #Sudan #Kenya #Tanzania #humanrights https://lnkd.in/eVvScxKm
