Those at the top have unique power to create a culture to their linking and comfort zone or to co-curate a culture that is gracious and respectful of the greater collective. And, at the same time, the collective has its own power to co-create the culture they deserve and are worthy of working within. They don’t need to wait for the top to shift.

I don’t want your job! Many years ago, I learned the lesson that to deliver the best outcomes possible as a leader, I needed to get comfortable with hiring people who might be as experienced or more experienced than I am, because a leader’s greatest successes come from the quality of the stuff delivered by their teams.I was reminded of it the other day during a conversation about workplace authenticity with Matt Turner. It’s a concept that some people I have met over the years have found difficult. Especially new or aspiring leaders, because they felt a bit threatened by having people around them who might be more experienced than them, or nipping at their heels, hoping for a slip up, who will then pounce and take their place. It’s one of the reasons why I enjoy what I do, and one of the reasons why you should not fear engaging the services of someone like me is that I don’t want your job!
