Those at the top have unique power to create a culture to their linking and comfort zone or to co-curate a culture that is gracious and respectful of the greater collective. And, at the same time, the collective has its own power to co-create the culture they deserve and are worthy of working within. They don’t need to wait for the top to shift.

I don’t want your job! Many years ago, I learned the lesson that to deliver the best outcomes possible as a leader, I needed to get comfortable with hiring people who might be as experienced or more experienced than I am, because a leader’s greatest successes come from the quality of the stuff delivered by their teams.I was reminded of it the other day during a conversation about workplace authenticity with Matt Turner. It’s a concept that some people I have met over the years have found difficult. Especially new or aspiring leaders, because they felt a bit threatened by having people around them who might be more experienced than them, or nipping at their heels, hoping for a slip up, who will then pounce and take their place. It’s one of the reasons why I enjoy what I do, and one of the reasons why you should not fear engaging the services of someone like me is that I don’t want your job! My measure of success is helping you to succeed in whatever technology leadership, strategy or transformation challenges you might have. It doesn’t come from making you look bad and trying to undermine you. I am generally pretty comfortable in my own skin, and I take great professional pride in helping you create the best outcomes for your business.
