This is such an inspiring initiative! Using sports and positive psychology as tools to foster self-confidence and resilience in young people is truly impactful. Programs like "Mind Power" not only address immediate mental health needs but also create lasting foundations for well-being, reducing the need for crisis intervention. It's refreshing to see a proactive approach in mental health care, which helps bridge the gap for those who may struggle to access support. Research shows that talking is great for your mental health! 💬 As many of you know, I’ve been working hard on developing Mind Power with the support of the International Olympic Committee – IOC Young Leaders program. It’s a prevention program that I bring to schools and communities. By using sports and positive psychology as catalysts for change, we’re creating programs that help young people build self-confidence, a positive mindset, and resilience. Many people only seek help from a psychologist when problems arise, and support can be hard to access due to the shortage of mental health professionals. This leads to increasing issues, longer wait times, and higher costs. I believe it’s time to take a proactive approach to mental health. Instead of waiting for problems to occur, we can help young people prevent them. Let’s normalize discussions about mental health, use sports as a tool, and leverage positive psychology to empower our youth! Curious how we do it? Watch this video of a Mind Power session at a vocational school, focusing on movement, mental health conversations, fun, teamwork and developing a positive mindset. We’re still in development, and it involves a lot of trial and error, but I really believe in the power of sports and positive psychology.
