It is important NOT to get into power struggles with your child over food. Eating and meal time should be a time to relax and connect as a family. If you have a picky eater, make sure to serve a variety of foods at the meal, including one thing you know your child likes to eat. Also, it will be helpful to have the food on the table ‘family style’ so each person can serve him/herself. Then model eating a variety of foods for your child. As long as your child is healthy, they are okay to eat a limited selection of foods - typically kids outgrow this. #parenting #pickyeaters #powerstruggles #gettingmychildtolisten #childfollowingdirections #parentingweeklytip

Little children are often incredibly eager to eat their parents' food, finding joy and fascination in meals that seem “grown-up” or special. Watching their parents enjoy a dish naturally sparks curiosity, as children see food as not just a necessity but also as a chance to connect and share in family moments. Eating the same food as adults gives them a sense of belonging and maturity, making them feel “big” or important. The aroma, flavors, and even textures of new dishes capture their attention, turning mealtime into an exciting adventure. For parents, these moments are opportunities to introduce their children to a variety of foods and encourage healthy eating habits. Sharing bites of their meals helps kids develop an open-minded approach to different tastes and cuisines. Often, the mere act of eating the same food as their parents is enough to make children try things they might otherwise refuse. This enthusiasm to share in their parents' meals is more than just about food—it’s a bonding experience that brings families closer together, creating warm memories around the dining table. #FamilyTime #LittleFoodies #CuriousKids #ParentingMoments #FamilyMeals #HealthyEating #KidsAndParents #FoodAdventures #TasteExplorers

Struggling to get your little one excited about trying new foods? Sometimes, all it takes is a playful twist! Try renaming foods to spark their imagination and build positive connections. A green apple can become a "green ball," while a carrot stick might transform into a "magic wand." 📝 Why does this work? It’s not about tricking your child or simplifying things for them. Instead, it’s about creating fresh, positive associations with foods that might otherwise be met with resistance. Playful names can shift the mealtime atmosphere from stressful to fun and encourage curiosity instead of hesitation. Not sure what type of eater you have? DM or comment QUIZ or visit thepickyeaterstest.com to learn what type of eater your child is. #FoodFun #PlayfulEating #KidsInTheKitchen #HealthyHabits #ImaginativeMeals #CreativeCooking #MealtimeMagic #PositiveAssociations #ChildhoodNutrition #Parenting

If you’ve ever tried to feed an infant who’s not hungry, you’ve witnessed a natural intuitive eater. We’re born intuitive eaters: babies and children eat when they’re hungry and they don’t eat when they’re full. As a parent, our job is to nurture this intuitive eater. One of the most important ways to do so is to get out of the way of listening to their hunger and fullness cues. Children need to be able to decide IF they eat and HOW MUCH they eat. Let me explain ⬇️ IF: Allowing your child to say “no” to eating is extremely important for them to feel safe to say “yes!” to it in the future. Remove the pressure for your child to eat and instead focus on food “exposures.” HOW MUCH: It’s normal for a child to eat WILDLY different amounts of food from day to day or meal to meal. Avoid pressuring your child to eat, requiring them to clean their plate, or making them eat a certain food before serving dessert. Doing so can accidentally send the message to your child that some foods are more desirable than others. It can also interfere with your child’s ability to tune into their hunger and fullness cues.
