Hiring entertainers or conceptualizing entertainment for corporate events goes far beyond merely appealing to the crowd. With every event we execute, this is one part that I find the most challenging. The expectations are so high but one doesn't realize the different scenarios we as event experts need to look into.
Entertainment at corporate events is about more than just keeping the crowd happy. It plays a key role in achieving the event's goals, whether that’s celebrating a success, promoting a product, or encouraging teamwork. The right entertainment can reflect your company’s values and culture, helping to create a positive image and making attendees feel more connected to the brand.
Moreover, engaging entertainment can foster networking and interaction among guests, making it easier for people to connect in a relaxed environment. It leaves a lasting impression, encouraging attendees to talk about the event long after it’s over. Ultimately, thoughtful entertainment is a powerful tool that enhances the overall experience and supports the objectives of the event.

🚨 This says at least 5 things to me:
✅ This executive gets it! Events are an investment in your people, not an annual box to check. Desire to wow your guests and get bigger each year.
✅ Collaborate with rock star doers. If the internal client event owner isn't excitable and cannot dream big, your chances of success are lessened. That was not the case here. This partnership flourished with creativity and optimism and was executed by a slew of specialists who were experts in their field.
✅ Focus on what's visible. As an event producer, our work (arguably) is the most scrutinized. We're judged by what's onstage and visible and how it connects and flows to the company's objectives. Create exceptional memories for your audience.
✅ Create mystery and wonder. Very few people are thrilled to sit in a windowless conference room all day. Create a little magic and stickiness, even in the mundane. Pay attention to how rapidly the world of live events is changing.
✅ Loyalty. When this executive (and another at our first gathering) noticed the difference in production levels and crew experience, he excitedly challenged us to raise the bar; you bet I'm thinking A LOT about next year just because their culture noticed and cares.

I know that I'm WAYYYY late to the game, but I finally rented the Era's Tour movie, and holy sh*t... it's unreal. I laughed, I cried (twice) and I wrote a LinkedIn post. Just a typical Wednesday night.
Here's what we as event planners or event marketers can learn from T-Swift.
A Unique Sparkle (even for rinse and repeat events): Taylor did 14,246 stops on this tour, but every.single.one was somehow unique. You could go to many stops and get a unique experience. For roadshows or annual events, how can you throw a little sparkle on there to give it a *that's new* vibe?
Wow Factor: Obviously I'm not saying you need elaborate stages, 16 costume changes and backup dancers, but I am saying that when you think you're done planning an event, I challenge you to think *how could I make this an even more incredible experience.*
Credit Your Team: One of my favorite takeaways. Taylor always thanks her band, dancers, crew members and fans. Likewise, give shoutouts publicly to all internal teams, vendors and sponsors who bring your event vision to life.
Have Fun: Seeing Taylor's childlike enthusiasm dancing across the stadium reminds me - as planners we can get laser focused on logistics, when we also need to pause and soak in the energy in the room. Enjoy the fruits of your labor, baby!

How to Make a Gig Happen: The Hidden Challenges of Event Management
As an event organizer with years of experience in private, public, and cultural events, I’ve learned that the behind-the-scenes responsibilities of pulling off a successful gig are often overlooked. My name is Kevin Lehning, I’m 33 years old, and I’ve spent much of my career navigating the complexities of event management.
What many people, including band members, may not realize is just how much mental and emotional load the band leader carries. We’re responsible for the logistics, the smooth running of the event, and the satisfaction of everyone involved—from the musicians to the audience, to the production team.
Let me share a recent experience. I was working with a production company to organize a gig for 350 people. Despite my efforts to help them secure the best sound setup within a reasonable budget, they locked in a budget that was far too low. On the morning of the gig, with only two hours of sleep and while traveling by train, I got a call informing me that the sound setup I had carefully planned was now in jeopardy. They downplayed the importance of proper sound for the event, leaving me to scramble and fix the situation.
In a matter of hours, I managed to arrange for a sound engineer, secure the necessary equipment, and coordinate logistics—all while ensuring the budget wasn’t blown. Thanks to some incredible friends who came through with last-minute support, we were able to pull off the event smoothly. But it was a reminder of how much pressure falls on the shoulders of one person when others don’t fully grasp the scope of what’s needed.
Moving forward, I’ve decided to be more selective with my collaborations. I’ll work with those who truly understand and respect the demands of event management—those who are committed, hardworking, and won’t leave me to handle everything alone.
Event management is not just about showing up and playing music; it’s about the countless decisions and the immense responsibility that falls on the band leader. It’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way, but it’s also what drives me to ensure every event I organize is a success.
