👩🏾🌍💪🏾Empowering young #women is essential for building a healthier future. Many girls face challenges related to sexual reproductive health (#SRH), from stigma and misinformation to a lack of access to essential resources. 🗣️ To overcome these obstacles, we need to prioritize education and open conversations about sexual health. By equipping young women with accurate #information about condom use and reproductive health, we can foster #confidence and self-efficacy. 🚀 It is crucial to create safe-spaces where girls can share their experiences, ask questions, and challenge the #myths that often hinder their ability to make informed choices. When we empower girls with the knowledge and tools they need, we not only help them take charge of their #health but also inspire them to become advocates for change in their communities. 🤝 Let’s work together to support our #youth, ensuring they have the resources to achieve their dreams and reduce the risks of #HIV, STIs, and unintended pregnancies. A strong, informed generation of girls will lead us toward a brighter, healthier future for all.

Did you know? According to KPHC 2009, 24% of the country’s total population is made up of the adolescent youths aged 10-19 years old which translates to 9.2 million. The medium age for involvement in sexual intercourse is 18.2 years for the girls and 17.6 years for men It is also reported that 22% of the boys had their first sex by the age of 15 and 12% of girls had their first sex at the same age. 37% of girls and 44% of boys are reported to have had sex between the age of 15-19 years Around 18% of the adolescent girls aged 15-19 have begun childbearing and 26% of women aged 20-24 years had started childbearing by the age 18.1 and almost 2/3 of the estimated 345,000 pregnancies among the adolescent girls between 15-19 years old are unintended in Kenya as per KDHS, 2009. As a result of this, comprehensive sexual reproductive education is necessary since it equips the adolescent youths with information to enable them make informed decisions about their sexuality. A Tip for Dealing with Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights Challenges Among Adolescents. Unsafe abortions, teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, sexually transmitted infections, and poor menstrual health are some of the significant SRHR challenges that our adolescents and youths are facing. It is acknowledged that adolescents are receptive to culture and religion; models and examples set at home, school, their community, and the media. What they see, hear, watch, and perceive influences moral reasoning and behavior, including self-image, respect for others, gender roles, sexual activity, marriage, and more. Would you believe it if I told you that your pastor, sheikh, or any other faith leader could play a vital role in discussing and guiding your teenager about these issues? Now check this out: Exactly what Faith to Action Network (F2A) doing with the faith community. Religion and spirituality, as well as their relationship with their faith leaders, influence their growth and development process. From childhood through their early stages of development, they hold their faith leaders in high regard, seeing them as role models. They regard them as spiritual leaders and parents, and many see them as mentors in faith matters and other issues. Despite the glaring challenges that adolescents face in SRHR, something can be done. During this year’s #RHNKConference2024, Reproductive Health Network Kenya F2A will demonstrate how the faith community can play a vital role in addressing these SRHR issues that our teenagers and youths face. We at Edusex India are working to dispel myths and break societal taboos around sexual health and reproductive rights in India by: 1.    Education and Awareness Campaigns: We believe that education is the key to challenging misconceptions and empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their sexual health and reproduction. Our NGO conducts comprehensive awareness campaigns through various mediums, including social media, and community outreach programs. We provide accurate and stigma-free information, debunking myths and breaking down barriers to open dialogue. 2.    Peer Education and Youth Empowerment: We recognize the power of peer-to-peer influence, especially among young people. Our NGO trains and empowers young individuals, community leaders, and peer educators to engage in open conversations about sexual health and reproductive rights. They act as ambassadors, sharing personal stories, dispelling myths, and advocating for change within their communities. 4.    Supportive Healthcare Services: Accessible, confidential, and non-judgmental healthcare services are crucial in ensuring individuals can seek the necessary care and support without fear or shame.  Our NGO advocates for and supports the development of such services that prioritize sexual health and reproductive rights. We strive to create safe environments within clinics and hospitals where individuals feel respected, understood, and empowered to make decisions about their bodies. 5.    Media Representation: We recognize the significant role media plays in shaping public perceptions and attitudes. We actively engage media outlets to present accurate and positive representations of sexual health and reproduction. By sharing personal narratives and success stories, we humanize these issues and highlight the importance of breaking taboos. Through strategic media partnerships, we amplify our message and reach a wider audience. 6.    Legal Advocacy and Policy Reform: Our NGO works closely with advocacy groups and legal experts to advocate for policy reforms that protect and promote sexual health and reproductive rights. We lobby for comprehensive sexuality education in schools, increased access to contraception and family planning services, and the decriminalization of consensual adult sexual activities. Through legal advocacy, we strive to create an enabling environment that supports individuals' rights to make informed choices. 7.    Collaboration and Partnerships: We strongly believe in the power of collaboration and partnerships. We work closely with NGOs, government agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to leverage resources, exchange knowledge, and amplify our impact. By pooling our expertise and efforts, we ensure a comprehensive and sustained approach to breaking taboos and promoting sexual health and reproductive rights.
