Here is why: • Latino underrepresentation in media costs the entertainment industry up to $18 billion annually. • 70% of Latino Gen Z agree that “not enough brands do a good job of representing people similiar to me or my community” • Latino leads in scriptrd streaming shows make up only 7%, 0% co-leads, and 3% of the ensemble cast, far below their 19.5% share of the U.S. population. • Latinos account for 24% of movie ticket sales but hold only 8% of main cast roles in theatrical film. A message for media-training specialists everywhere: 1. Ensure your spokesperson is well-informed 2. Ensure your spokesperson has all the facts before appearing on any media outlet 3. There is a fine line between ‘bridging’ and outright obfuscating. When half of a country aligns with Conservative ideas and values, should the promoters of diversity and inclusivity not be making proactive steps to ensure this is represented and reflected in news broadcasters and broadcasting? Hypocrisy at its finest.
