🎉 Today marks my fifth year at MSD in the UK! Cliché I know, but the time has actually flown! I remember turning up at the then office in Hoddesdon for my interview and walking back to my car afterwards knowing this was where I wanted to work thanks to MSD's mission and ethos (plus the warm welcome from my interviewers and future team!). A few months later, I was heading into a new role at a new company in a completely new industry! My head was spinning for the first few days… weeks… months… as I adjusted from switching from the public sector to the private, in an industry I had a novice understanding of at best. But what I did – and continue to – have is a passion for all things social media and communications, and my new colleagues really embraced this and empowered me to use that knowledge, grow it and challenge it. With this environment, it didn’t take me too long to realise that the culture at MSD is pretty unique. It wasn’t just my technical skills and abilities that were being nurtured and encouraged, it was also me as a person. I realised that not only is being involved with what I used to think of as ‘extra-curricular’ activities OK, it’s positively encouraged. My passion around positive mental health and wellbeing was seen by my manager and I was able to train as a Mental Health First Aider and – more recently – step up as deputy lead for our wellbeing network. Equally, my insatiable appetite for learning was not only recognised but proactively fed. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit colleagues in another market, attend conferences and even complete a yearlong course in leadership and project management. I’ve even be able to grow in areas of personal development that I would have found challenging before. Public speaking comes to mind – I would have likely once avoided this, but now, thanks to some incredible colleagues’ encouragement and coaching, I genuinely love it! I’m lucky enough to have spoken at numerous events and sessions, and even a company-wide meeting. And I guess that’s the point of this now fairly long post! I of course believe in what I do in terms of work – what we do as a team is important in helping us make a difference and I am proud of it, but in addition to that it’s the people that have made these a brilliant five years. Without the people, and their belief and investment in me, I wouldn’t have such fantastic memories and friendships, so thanks to each and every one of you! I hope to repay it all back in kind to current and future colleagues.

💙 Reflecting on My First Year at Medtronic 🌍 This picture was taken when I went on a walk around our office today and inspired me to write this post! It’s a reminder of why we do what we do: “We believe every person, every life, deserves better. We're Medtronic". So powerful. Tomorrow, I celebrate one year with Medtronic - a year that’s been as challenging as it’s been rewarding, as humbling as it’s been inspiring. Moving to a new state, navigating life’s unexpected twists, and facing personal trials have shaped this journey in ways I could never have anticipated. And through it all, I’ve felt the power of Medtronic’s mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life echoing in every corner of our work. This year has brought significant challenges for me personally. My mum’s courageous battle with cancer and my own near-fatal accident have been life-altering moments. They’ve made me acutely aware of how precious our work is—of the deep responsibility we carry to help create better lives. Our mission isn’t just words - it’s a promise that gets me up every morning, determined to give my best. It’s so refreshing to work in a culture where the work I do genuinely impacts human lives... Knowing that what I do makes a difference fuels my passion daily! What has stood out most in this whirlwind year is the strength of the team around me. From leaders at the very top to colleagues throughout the ranks, I’ve witnessed firsthand how Medtronic’s people show up with resilience, empathy, and a commitment to excellence. Here, we’re good, but we need to move to great consistently as a TA Team, and I am excited to work with such passionate people to make this happen. This journey isn’t without its challenges, but with every step, I’m reminded of the profound impact a shared purpose and relentless pursuit of growth can have. Then we move from 'Great to Extraordinary'. Looking forward to my second year and beyond, I’m filled with excitement and optimism for what’s ahead. The Leap: An Inevitable That’s Planned Celebrating one Year at Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicine 🥳 Change is the only constant, but sometimes, even the inevitable needs a plan. A plan that leads to growth. To a leap forward. For me, #Novartis wasn’t just a company—it was my school of experience and expertise. It’s where I learned, grew, and became confident in who I am today. Though I’ve moved on, Novartis will always hold a special place as the foundation of my professional journey. But growth often requires embracing the inevitable. And for me, that meant taking a leap of faith—leaving behind the familiar to step into the unknown. On 23rd November 2024, I completed one year at Johnson & Johnson, and I can proudly say it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Holtzople Consulting's first international business trip was a success and well worth the adventure. My experience at MSD South Africa has been incredibly fulfilling, both professionally and personally. In essence, it is a meaningful work environment where passion, empathy, and growth are prioritized. As I approach my three-month mark at MSD, I’ve taken time to reflect on the experiences on this journey so far. There are a few standout moments and realizations that have deeply resonated with me, 1. A Supportive Team: I’m fortunate to work with people who not only excel in their work but are also incredibly kind and willing to support newcomers. The genuine passion they have for what they do is contagious. I adore that I am surrounded by such a welcoming and encouraging group of colleagues. 2. Patient Stories: After I lost my dad to cancer and my younger brother to other health complications, engaging with patients and patient organizations has been especially moving. Stories of survival and resilience remind me of the life-changing impact our work has on individuals and their families. The innovative strides in medicine bring both hope and comfort, and hearing these survivor stories often leaves me in awe, sometimes even with tears of gratitude. 3. Transparency and Accessibility: I’ve grown accustomed to an open-plan work environment, where leadership is not just visible but accessible. This transparency fosters a sense of collaboration and openness that inspires trust. 4. Learning Opportunities: Every day is a chance to learn something new, and that continuous growth excites me. If you’re not learning, it’s hard to feel like you’re truly living. I am grateful for a culture that prioritizes personal and professional development, and it motivates me to keep pushing my boundaries.
