Earlier this week, we facilitated a workshop in Helsinki to start important work on integrating socioeconomic data into the EU-funded AquaINFRA project - follow this project where we work with developing #EOSC compatible research infrastructure with #FAIR data discovery and services connecting land, freshwaters, and seas for reaching healthy waters
Knowledge about the human effects on the marine ecosystems is fundamental to reach the goal of protecting an restoring healthy oceans by 2030 as stated in #MissionOcean. Thefore the #AquaINFRA project aims at integrating socio-economic data with marine and freshwater data in its research infrastructure. During yesterday and today we had a workshop taking the first steps towards this effort at the Finnish Geosptial Institute in Helsinki, and based on fruitful discussions a roadmap for the next steps in this process are defined. #HorizonEU #EOSC

🌊 Mission Ocean: A Pathway to Restoring Our Ocean and Waters by 2030 🌊 The EU's Mission Ocean initiative is a bold and necessary step toward addressing the critical need to restore the health of our oceans and waters by 2030. Through innovative research, citizen engagement, and blue investments, this initiative aims to protect marine ecosystems, improve biodiversity, and secure the sustainable use of marine resources. 🌍🌿 Central to this mission is the creation of the European Digital Twin Ocean (EU DTO), a powerful digital model that will allow for real-time monitoring, simulations, and predictions of oceanic and human interactions. By combining natural and socio-economic data, EU DTO will play a pivotal role in understanding and addressing the complexities of our marine environments. 💡 At SEADITO, we are proud to be part of this endeavor. SEADITO contributes to the mission by developing advanced social-ecological models that help integrate human activities with marine spatial planning. Our project’s aim is to test, calibrate, and validate these models through case studies in the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Mediterranean regions, ensuring they align with the EU DTO vision. 🌊🔬 Together, we are taking critical steps toward a more sustainable and resilient ocean future. #MissionOcean #EUDTO #BlueEconomy #SustainableOceans #MarineManagement #SEADITO Aalborg University SINTEF 📸Photo: Publication Office of the European Union

The 10 entities from 6 countries that promote the Germ of Life project consortium have held their second face-to-face meeting in Marseille (France) to share progress in the structuring of its various technical and operational aspects. The French technology multinational Atos is one of the 10 partners and has acted as host. The Région Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur collaborated in holding the meeting. Germ of Life develops an innovative system of digital technologies to improve preventive management of drought risks. The project, with support of Interreg Euro-MED Programme, is led from the University of Patras (Greece) by Athanassios A. Argiriou, professor at its Atmospheric Physics Laboratory. The other partners are CMCC Foundation - Centro Euro Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici, LAMORO Development Agency, Region Of Western Greece, Junta de Andalucía, EDIA - Empresa de Desenvolvimento e Infra-estruturas do Alqueva, S.A., DOTSOFT SA, Ubitel Ingenieria and Infotrend Innovations co. LTD. Agathe Spitz, Interreg Euro-MED Project Officer, explained in Marsella to all Germ of Life partners the architecture of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme and the role of the Joint Secretariat. During the meeting, the next steps were reviewed, such as, among others: -Review of existing drought indices and formulation of new indicators and proxies that are potentially useful for drought detection and impact quantification. -Networking with drought risk projects and best practices, coordination with thematic community projects and institutional dialogue projects. -Case studies definition, with solutions co-design and the definition of the technical viability and value proposition of the platforms. Representatives of other projects that address the challenges of sustainable development and water resources management also participated as guests on the second day. In the context of the opportunities and risks of the use of unconventional waters, the entire strategic framework of Plan Bleu in the area of Mediterranean countries, and the TerraOccitanIA and Scottish Water projects, were presented. The goal was to identify suitable strategies for adapting to climate change through the balanced and conscious use of water. 💡 The event was also attended by Paolo Sebastiani, General Manager AC.MO S.r.l., who presented the company's experience with 3rd and 4th level water meters. This is a task that AC.MO S.r.l. continues to pursue, following an innovative approach centered on the use of digital technologies and monitoring. This includes not only flow meters for monitoring and controlling water distribution, but also cutting-edge #Hydropass units featuring ultrasonic measurement technology and data transmission via LoRaWAN technology. #ACMO #ExpectAVK #AVKGroup #seminar #informational #journey #awareness #strategies #climatechange #conscioususeofwater #innovativeapproach #digitaltechnologies #monitoring #waterdistribution #Hydropass #system
