Visualization of the Design Plan for River Border Areas with Minimal Land The design plan must apply a sustainable concept that can solve problems and emphasize the activity program that will be held on the site. The URBAN AGROCOMMUNITY concept creates a space that can be used to accommodate the activities of the surrounding community. There are 3 focuses of the development plan, namely ecological, socio-cultural and increasing economic value. It is hoped that visitors will not only come from the surrounding community, such as academics, special communities, and even tourists will be interested in visiting this ecotourism village area as a thematic village and model village. #riverscape #communalspace #landscapedesign #architecture #designprocess #sustainabledesign #urbandevelopment #urbanfarming

Did you know that urban spaces can be havens for nature? Our latest book, The Right to Nature, explores this very idea. In a recent interview with PAYSAGE TOPSCAPE, Paolo Palmulli, one of the book's authors (AG&P greenscape), delves deeper into the importance of green infrastructure, biodiversity, and community engagement in shaping sustainable cities. "We need to understand, interpret and design the new scenarios of coexistence and living in contemporary cities through a new human-nature relationship." Want to learn more? Sustainable practices case study: The community, which was practicing organic farming techniques and promoting its vision of consistent contact with the natural surroundings, was already planning for sustainable model houses for the residents. This became the perfect opportunity to explore the possibility of how we can build sensibly in untouched virgin landscapes. #sustainability #architecture #design #architects #landscape #spaceplanning #sustainablegoals

What does #sustainability mean in landscape architecture? Part 1: Harmonizing with Nature: Sustainability means designing #landscapes that work in harmony with the natural environment. By choosing native and adaptive plant species, we create ecosystems that thrive with minimal intervention. These plants support local #biodiversity, require less water, and reduce the need for chemical treatments, fostering a healthier, more balanced environment. At Joanna Pertz Landscape Architecture, sustainability isn’t an afterthought—it’s a foundational principle. We believe that through thoughtful, sustainable design, we can create landscapes that enhance the beauty of our surroundings and contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet. Could Our Roofs Do Better? 🤔 Absolutely! 👇 Today’s roofs are more than covers for our buildings—they can be powerful tools for sustainability and urban improvement. By adopting green roofs, we can transform ordinary spaces into thriving ecosystems that reduce energy costs, manage stormwater, and support biodiversity. It’s time to rethink what our roofs can do. Let’s dive into their full potential and make a positive impact on our cities and the environment. Green up the roofs, the cities, the world! 🌎💚 📸 Martin Schubert ___ #greenroofs #environment #sustainability #energyefficiency #biodiversity #architecture #greenbuilding

"In the past, we've prioritised elements other than nature in our developments; it's time now to readjust our thinking and build a more holistic picture, rather than limiting ourselves to just a human perspective." Head of Landscape Architecture Isabella Bhoan spoke at London Build Expo yesterday on how biophilic spaces create thriving communities - a fascinating discussion that encompassed how suppliers are increasingly prioritising design and materials that are sensitive to wildlife, the lesser-known phenomenon of 'plant blindness', why Biodiversity Net Gain must be at the forefront of design to connect projects to their adjacent landscapes, and more. Integrating climate adaptation spaces into our urban environments is an urgent matter that needs to be addressed immediately. The Spectacular Palace of Integrated Nurturing seeks to go beyond this urgency, using climate adaptation not only as a mitigation process, but as a design tool to promote spaces for care, nurturing and interspecies coexistence, questioning our relationship with urban identity and its context. Maritime habitats are the most populous habitats in the world. Urbanization progresses faster on the waterfront, and at the same time, maritime habitats will be the most affected by the consequences of climate change. In this context, #VESSEL, an #AcademyProject executed by our Industrial Designer, Konstantin Wolf, offers a visionary solution to the pressing challenges faced by urban coastal regions. VESSEL merges architecture with mobility to meet the growing needs of urban coastal areas while securing a sustainable future. Developed under the guidance of Prof. Wolfgang Schabbach (Fakultät Design | Hochschule Coburg) and Sven Feustel as part of the PHOENIX Academy's "Movement & Mobility" theme, VESSEL features a compact design that unites elements of boat building and architecture. It allows for seamless integration between land and water transport. The open stern facilitates easy transition from land to water, while the semi-enclosed body offers comfort, privacy, and protection. This concept encourages shared usage and integration with other transport modes, contributing to a more connected and sustainable urban environment. Konstantin underscores how his experience at the PHOENIX Academy was pivotal in his development as a designer, allowing him to explore complex topics like mobility, urbanism, and sustainability in a professional setting. At a crucial time in his journey, the Academy allowed him to learn, take risks, make mistakes, and receive constructive feedback in an open and professional environment—an experience beyond what his university could offer. Through VESSEL, he identified and addressed the shortcomings in his work and addressed them accurately, a process that has significantly boosted his career to this day. The VESSEL Project exemplifies what can be achieved with innovative thinking and proper support. If you're ready to develop your own groundbreaking ideas, visit our website to learn more about the Academy. As we delve into our dialogue with Nick Yannakis from Beca, one fundamental question arises; "Whether through new construction or the adaptive reuse of existing structures, what strategies can we employ to create energy-efficient aquatic facilities?" Achieving a harmonious balance in each building's carbon efficiency is key to ensuring the long-term success of our wellness, aquatic, and leisure facilities. Nick summed it up perfectly; "its about more people, more active, more often!" #Europan #E17 Runner-up in Groenewoud (NL) -- Sub-urban Jungle -- by AS: Margit van Schaik (NL), Jesper Baltussen (NL) – architects "‘Sub-urban Jungle’ offers a design-strategy for the strong interweaving of cultural and ecological realities necessary in the current anthropogenic situation. It’s primary aim is to shift the focus from merely creating nature-inclusive buildings to creating environments that facilitate nature-inclusive life. To do so, it takes daily lived experiences as the starting point for its design method." #europan17 #livingcities2 #architecturecompetition #urbanplanning #urbanism #landscape #competition #architecturaldrawings #archilovers #axonometrics #groenewoud #nederland
