🌟 Exciting Updates from the 𝟰𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝗣𝗜) Anna Bortoletto recently presented our innovative research on "𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝘆𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲," funded by Sirmax. Key insights include: 🌱 Silver streaks are primarily caused by 𝗱𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, forming gas bubbles. 🛠️ Exploiting 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 for molding at low temperatures can significantly reduce these defects. 🌀 Both active and passive 𝗴𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 techniques effectively mitigate silver streaks. 🏭 Changes in 𝗶𝗻𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 can alter defect distribution by influencing bubble growth. Congratulations to Anna for winning the 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 at the conference! Hadi Saniei delivered an insightful presentation titled "𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗟𝗔-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲-𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀: 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴," as part of the European project SERENADE. Insights shared were: 🌡️ Increased mold temperature in core-shell designs aids in 𝗲𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 by reducing part shrinkage and stiffness. 🔬 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 boosts crystallinity, thereby decreasing cycle times. 🔎 Higher 𝗰𝗿𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 at elevated temperatures can, however, increase ejection forces. Hadi's research is supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗸ł𝗼𝗱𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗮-𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 program (Grant Agreement No. 101072846). 🔍 Both researchers are pushing the boundaries of polymer processing innovation, aiming for more efficient and environmentally friendly manufacturing techniques. We look forward to their continued success and impact in the field! #PolymerScience #PPI2024 #Innovation #Sustainability #Recycling #Manufacturing Pablo Dolado Bielsa Alberto Marcolongo Marco Sorgato Ludwig Cardon

👕 Refiberd won a $274,955 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) - Translational Impacts! 🌟 This Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project aims to enable textile circularity by developing an artificial intelligence-based material detection system that will accurately detect the presence of key materials for recyclers as well as any contaminant materials that could interfere with recycling. #SBIR #STTR #TextileRecycling #Sustainability 💡 The project will focus on developing a textile waste detection system that can detect the presence of common fiber recycling contaminants, specifically elastane fibers, nylon 6 and nylon 66 fibers, and man-made cellulosic fibers (MMCFs). The biggest technical hurdle is the development of a regression-based machine learning algorithm that will provide a quantitative estimate of each potential contaminant and material present in each textile sample. 📅 The award will last for 0.75 years, starting from July 15, 2024, and ending on April 30, 2025. The research type is Small Business Innovation Research Program Phase I Action.
