Save the Date – Stakeholder Workshop at MécaPlasTronic, Lyon, November 26, 2024 How can circular materials meet the technical requirements of printed circuit boards?   The EU-funded project CircEl-Paper is heading to close the loop for circular economy for reliable PCB: by using paper and paper recycling processes, by exploiting secondary raw materials, by using biobased materials, and by cost and material efficient printing processes.   In its workshop event at MecaPlasTronic Connection 2024 in Lyon, the CircEl-Paper project team will present first results on new paper and ink formulations, on paper-based PCB manufacture and on the adaptation of paper recycling processing to recover PCB materials. In addition, well-known international experts will cover a range of further aspects on the road to sustainable electronics.   Curious? Meet the partner time! Today, we are excited to introduce JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft mbH (JR), an Austrian research organisation. Two different divisions will be involved in the DECIPHER project. JOANNEUM RESEARCH MATERIALS provides end-to-end solutions for the entire value chain from the idea to the prototype, through miniaturisation, integration and material optimisation: large-area micro and nanostructures, bio and chemosensors, light technologies, functionalised surfaces and laser processes. JOANNEUM RESEARCH LIFE carries out research into core questions related to climate, energy and social systems using in-depth scientific modelling, profitability calculations and life cycle assessment, and provide public bodies and businesses with support in implementing measures aimed at promoting climate resilience and climate neutrality. Within Decipher, JR Materials is responsible for the chip fabrication process, starting from mastering, stamp production and (high throughput R2R) replication into a UV curable resin. Biofunctionalisation of the chips is done in a R2R compatible microarray spotting machine. An electrochemical readout system for the detection of glucose is developed by integrating self-filling v-channels as electrodes directly into the imprinted chip. JR LIFE will perform a life cycle assessment, focusing on environmental impacts like greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion of the production as well as on the application and end-of-life of the developed patches. ✈️🌳 Wie können Flugzeuge umweltfreundlicher werden? Ein Hebel ist es, sie 🪶 leichter zu machen. 👉 Unsere Forscher*innen von JOANNEUM RESEARCH MATERIALS arbeiten deshalb an der Fertigung von Ultra-Leichtbau-Freiformteilen: Am Standort in Niklasdorf wird dafür ein 3D-Druck-Fertigungsverfahren entwickelt bei dem Titan und ein Hochleistungskunststoff zum Einsatz kommen. 👉 Um den Wartungsaufwand von Flugzeugen zu senken, wird bei JOANNEUM RESEARCH ROBOTICS in Klagenfurt zudem eine neue Methode für die Zustandsüberwachung von Bauteilen mittels Sensorik entwickelt: Sensoren werden mittels 3D-Druck aufgebracht, dabei wird ein Roboterarm eingesetzt, der die Freiformteile in die richtige Position bringt. Diese Sensoren ermöglichen es, Flugzeugteile kontinuierlich zu überwachen, was die Serviceinterwalle verlängern könnte. Bisher werden Bauteile nach einer bestimmten Zeit ausgetauscht, egal ob sie defekt sind oder nicht. Projektleiter: Mag.
