While celebrating Chelsea is important, let’s not ignore how NxStage continues to mislead patients by glorifying home dialysis as “life-changing.” This statement is a slap in the face to the 90% of patients tethered to machines, whether at home or in-center, enduring endless physical and emotional hardships. NxStage, your rhetoric is nothing short of irresponsible. Calling dialysis “life-changing” is deceptive and cruel. Dialysis is not a dream; it’s a lifeline riddled with pain, exhaustion, and limitations. Patients deserve honesty—not propaganda designed to sell machines. Where is your transparency about transplantation, prevention, or lifestyle improvement? Instead, you push a narrative that keeps patients stuck in the dialysis cycle, ignoring the bigger picture of freedom through organ donation and better care options. Your social media presence further exemplifies this failure. It lacks accountability, clarity, and any real engagement with the struggles of patients. Glossy posts celebrating your “successes” ignore the systemic failures and suffering your messaging perpetuates. It’s shameful and insulting to the renal community to continue promoting dialysis as a pinnacle of care when transplant and prevention offer a real path to independence and dignity. This is not just about marketing—it’s about lives. Patients are not commodities to prop up your bottom line. If NxStage truly cared, you would advocate for comprehensive education on transplant options, support efforts for prevention, and work toward making dialysis the last resort—not a permanent state. It’s time for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the ESRD Network to hold NxStage Medical, Inc. accountable. Investigate the manipulative practices that glorify a treatment rife with suffering while ignoring long-term solutions. 🚨 Exciting News! 🚨 We are thrilled to announce the publication of our latest research article: "Focal cooling: An alternative treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy in a mesial temporal lobe epilepsy primate model—A preliminary study." In epilepsy therapy, the ultimate aim is total seizure control with minimal side effects. Our preliminary study explores the potential of focal cooling of the epileptogenic zone (EZ) as an innovative alternative to traditional surgery and existing neuromodulation devices. Key Highlights: 🔬 This approach could revolutionize treatment for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. 🌡️ Focal cooling aims to offer a less invasive option with fewer side effects. 🐒 Our study used a primate model to investigate the efficacy of this method. We believe this research could pave the way for new, more effective treatments for epilepsy, bringing us closer to our goal of achieving total seizure control with minimal side effects.
