Understanding Disability-Related Microaggressions in the Workplace Are employers frequently asking employees to repeatedly justify their need for accommodations? This not only undermines trust but also shows a lack of basic understanding of disability rights. It's crucial to recognize that simple adjustments, such as providing agendas for meetings, don't just support disabled employees—they enhance productivity for everyone. Employers, are you inadvertently making employees feel bad for requesting what they need to succeed? Let's foster an inclusive environment where every team member feels respected and supported. #Inclusion #DisabilityAwareness #WorkplaceDiversity #Accessibility #RespectInTheWorkplace Image sourced from: https://lnkd.in/gqhDMrM2

True disability inclusion goes beyond basic accessibility and accommodations. The disability community encompasses over a billion people worldwide, with more than a quarter of U.S. adults self-identifying as Disabled. Yet, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports a significant employment disparity: only 23.1% of Disabled individuals are employed in the U.S., compared to 65.4% of non-disabled individuals. This stark contrast underscores the urgent need for more complete and thorough inclusion strategies in the workplace. Truly inclusive organizations go beyond basic accessibility and accommodations, they foster an environment where Disabled individuals are valued, supported, and provided with equity and opportunities needed to succeed.
