In this advanced video for Portuguese speakers, we explore the origins and evolution of traditions such as Halloween, Pão-por-Deus (Bread for God) and All Saints' Day. Come and discover how these festivities are intertwined, how the modern influences of North American Halloween have changed the way we celebrate, and what visits to the cemetery on All Saints' Day mean.

Are you seeing this as a problem in your workplace? Which of these 10 skills do you feel are most lacking? Great share by Margaret Heffernan, relating perfectly to our bread and butter at Effective Direction™ - helping organisations unleash their people!! Creative and analytical thinking (what we call Applied Critical Thinking - ACT) have been deemed the top essential skills in the World Economic Forum Future of Jobs reports in 2020 and 2023, forecasting the need out to 2027 and beyond. And yes, these skills are, unbelievably, also the most lacking. But is it unbelievable? Maybe not when you see the latest from Gallup, and the low workplace engagement scores we’re seeing across the globe 🌏 “Quiet quitting” is rife! Why is this happening? Because in a business world overwhelmed with processes and technology, we have forgotten what sits at the very heart of every organisation – its people. This is why we train organisations and individuals in Applied Critical Thinking 🧠🤔 Simple, not easy. But essential. What would you prioritise as the essential training you or your organisation need⁉️ #management #people #criticalthinking #learninganddevelopment #humanresources

In two years' time, what skills might your future self wish you had invested in today to boost your adaptability? I'm troubled by how the chart below - which captures hirers' perspective - mashes up traits, drivers and competencies under the generic umbrella of 'skills'. But aside from this sloppiness, I'm even more troubled by the fact that: ↳ Change agility - which is much more than 'creative thinking' and encompasses curiosity, continuous learning, the courage to experiment and take risks, resilience and emotional regulation under pressure - is sorely missing ↳ Critical thinking is also a notable pass ↳ Social skills and empathy in the age of AI, anyone? ↳ Independent working ranks so high, when today's world in flux critically calls for joined-up thinking & cross-boundary collaboration ↳ And finally, given that this is hirers' perspective, I can only be amused by the fact that "passion" and "dedication" are listed there as if candidates are meant to just put those in the bag and bring them on their first day at work - and not at all a matter of employers creating the conditions for "passion" and "dedication" to be ignited and channeled in the right way 😬 Curious what else you're noticing in this chart; and how you see your own "skills of the future" evolving...

How do we teach skills we don’t have? The short answer is we don’t. None of these skills are even part of the curriculum. Teaching is force-feeding information that doesn’t matter to students who aren’t listening. Who can blame them? There is no future for this. Facilitated learning (think Finland) incorporates all these skills seamlessly. It is the opposite of teaching. Teaching doesn’t work. As long as it takes for that to sink in is as long as it’s going to be before it’s eradicated.

When the naughty are rewarded.. Watch the ad first so I don’t spill the tea for you. As Christmas approaches, so will the wave of feel-good Christmas ads. This one has a familiar narrative that draws you into happy families preparing for Christmas, and one Grinch-like character ruining it. Then as expected, to fight or convert every villain there is a hero, in this case, a little girl. She bestows her kindness upon this angry little creature. Considering the festive context, I expected the little guy's heart to be touched and him to start participating in the festival. Instead, the next scene reveals, the kid joining him in his destruction. With the message of Myer’s - gifts for the naughty and nice. The fun plot twist conveys the message of “gifts for everyone” in a memorable way. What I loved about the ad is that instead of showing sharing joy in a very traditional “nice” way, it shows sharing joy in a “naughty way.” The villain and “hero” are a fictional character and a child, which makes their poor behavior acceptable to the audience and lowers their defenses. The ad brings childhood nostalgia, where shared naughtiness brings umpteen joy. We bond better with people who share our quirks, our weirdness, and niche tastes, than those who like the parts of us that cater to the masses. The last disapproving look from the family feels all too familiar, the one we often got, when we had that one naughty friend, who would supposedly corrupt us forever, putting our future at risk! https://lnkd.in/gmdAqmCY #Marketing #Advertising

This video captures something truly special—a 70th birthday celebration for Mom and Aunt Susan where communication wasn’t a barrier, but a way to bring everyone closer. British Sign Language (BSL) wasn’t just used—it became part of the joy, turning a simple gathering into a moment where love, connection, and inclusion were at the heart of everything. No one should ever feel left out. Accessibility isn’t just about removing obstacles; it’s about creating spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued—moments that remind us what true inclusivity looks like. It’s more than ticking boxes; it’s about building meaningful connections that help people feel like they truly belong, no matter how they communicate. We’re continually inspired by moments like this 👏 If you’ve come across any heartwarming or inspiring BSL stories, tag us—we’d love to celebrate them with you. Video Description: A heartwarming 70th birthday celebration for Mom and Aunt Susan, where tactile British Sign Language (BSL) played a central role in creating an inclusive and joyful experience for all attendees. #InclusiveInterpreting

With Halloween upon us, how might brands leverage this fun spirit to showcase character and capabilities? 👻⚡ I'm all about brands that get creative with cultural cues to spark shares. At Gewiss we saw an opportunity to experiment with a more lighthearted tone while delivering an instructive case study in strategic storytelling. Here the secret ingredients we use to cook this piece of content: 1️⃣ First Leveraging cultural moments like this to showcase brand personality 💯 2️⃣ Then, weaving in core differentiators nourishes brand trustworthiness. 🔄 3️⃣ Lastly Striking that balance of entertainer and adviser extends reach while cultivating likability. 🤟 Kudos to the team behind the scenes Alessandro Belotti Federica Capitanio 💡 Any other examples of companies embracing holidays to foster rapport? Hit me - I'm keen to pass insightful strategies and contents !🤙
Some projects can be scary. But with the right partner, there’s nothing to fear. At GEWISS, we are always proud to put our products at the service of your goals. Even the most ambitious ones... Happy Halloween!
