As harvest begins, California wineries are racing to get their grapes in before wildfire risks spike. With over 5,383 fires already this year, climate predictions suggest high fire danger for the rest of the season. Bella Vineyards in Dry Creek Valley showed how preparation can pay off, using wildfire defense strategies like removing flammable plants, setting up high-powered sprinklers, and employing fire prediction software. Their efforts helped protect their property from the Point Fire, highlighting the importance of fire mitigation as wineries brace for what's to come. #WildfirePrevention #Wineries #FireSafety #California Link to the full story in the newest edition of Grape & Wine Magazine by Pam Strayer in comments. Turning Beef into a Story In the beef industry, it’s not just about raising cattle—it’s about sharing the journey. Storytelling has become an art that allows consumers to connect deeply with each step, from ranch to plate. 🥩 When we tell the story of where beef comes from, we’re building transparency, trust, and appreciation for sustainable practices. Each ranch, each animal, and each cut of beef has a journey to share. Let’s make the beef industry’s story one that people remember, respect, and savor. #BeefIndustry #Storytelling #Sustainability #FarmToTable
Meet Charles and Vanessa Stevens of SC Ranch in Hawaii, where they raise beef on the rugged slopes of Mauna Kea. Much of their ranch is located at 4,000 feet elevation, and they keep every bit of their beef right on the island – “born local, staying local and feeding local people.” This story is part of a series by Beef Checkoff contractor, the National Cattlemen's Beef Association and the Hawaii Beef Industry Council, showcasing family-owned ranches, butchers and restaurants in Hawaii. Here is our tip #4 on how to identify fresh fish! If the fisherman/woman allows you to touch the fish prior to buying, check if the body is firm! Gently touch the fish to check if the body bounces back (i.e., no fingerprints observed). If it bounces back, you can be sure the fish is fresh! #fresh #fish #tip #inseason #seafood #pick #right #4

Diverse climatic events this past season have taken a toll on grapevines, causing #frostdamage to buds, shoots, and bunches, as well as high velocity #wind events and #cool spells during #flowering. These events, combined with #Vintage2024 #heatwaves, have led to sparse #fruitset and significantly reduced #yields. To assess the potential #yield in 2025, now is the time to consider a snapshot via Bud Fruitfulness Assessment. #viticulture #winegrowing #yield

You would be surprised how many challenges you need to overcome to serve an always fresh 'fish of the day' 🐟 The main challenge for our venue is certainly the volatility of the fish market, which is influenced by a multitude of variables: The season, current weather conditions or the daily form and luck of the fishermen. Sometimes, everything goes according to plan - the fish, expected in the respective season shows up, the weather is perfect, and the fishermen catches the fish effortlessly. However, there are also days when stormy weather completely upsets the process so that all plans for fishing must be cancelled, and other times, all pre-conditions seem ideal, but the fish just won't show up for reasons no one can explain, because the sea is a mystery sometimes. So what are we doing at Dave's to still be able to offer you our fish of the day? Staying in close contact with our East London neighbourhood supplier, Bethnal Green Fish to keep us updated about availabilities is key. As a matter of fact, these exchanges usually take place on Tuesdays and are a vital part of our weekly logistic routine. And depending on what fish is available, our chefs make a decision and become creative by finding the right ingredients to combine it with - and that's how our sea bream with verjus velouté, pink fir potatoes, fresh herbs and garlic chips came about recently (see photo). But as you now know, new days mean new fish, so head over to Dave's and try today's! Happy Apple Day! 🍎🍏 Best Places to pick your own apples in Southwest Florida: Joshua Citrus (Arcadia, FL) – About an hour from Sarasota, while they focus more on citrus, they offer a fun U-Pick experience in season. It’s a nice day trip for picking fresh Florida produce, even if it’s not apples! Hunsader Farms (Bradenton, FL) – This is a popular spot for fresh produce and hosts a big fall festival every October. While they don’t have apple trees, they offer other farm-fresh produce and seasonal activities that make it a great autumn day trip. Appleton’s Orchard & Event Venue (Citra, FL) – Roughly a 2.5-hour drive from Sarasota, this orchard is closer to Gainesville, and they sometimes offer U-Pick apples in early fall, depending on the season. It’s one of the few places in Florida that has managed to grow certain apple varieties adapted to warmer climates. #appleday #fruitlovers #appledelights #crispandjuicy #fallfavorites

🍂 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 🍂 I absolutely love fall. Every year, I used to take my children to Apple Hill—a magical place in Northern California with over 50 farms, ranches, wineries, and tree farms. It was the perfect fall getaway where the air was crisp, the leaves golden, and everything smelled like apples, cinnamon, and fresh pumpkin pie. 🍎🎃 Apple Hill had it all—apple cider, warm apple turnovers that melted in your mouth, hayrides, pumpkin patches, and ponds stocked with trout. It became a family tradition. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴... Even with 50+ places to choose from, we only ever visited 2 or 3. 𝗪𝗵𝘆? Because those few had something special. They had something that made them stand out, something that made us go back year after year. Whether it was a mouthwatering apple strudel you couldn’t resist or the simple joy of watching your kids fish in a pond while sipping fresh cider, ...𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁—𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲. As we enter the fall season—traditionally a time of harvest—ask yourself this: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁? What keeps your clients coming back to you, year after year? What experience do you offer that makes them feel something special? 🍁 Is it your specialty, your 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗲 that cuts through the noise? 🍁 Is it the way you create an 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 for your clients, making them feel seen, heard, and valued? Just like those farms that became our go-to, your business can be the one clients return to because you offer something unique—whether that’s the product or the way you make them feel. 🍂 This fall could be the time to reap the harvest of the seeds you've planted. As the season changes, focus on what separates you from the crowd and how you can maximize the potency of your business. So, what’s your apple turnover? What’s your stocked fishing pond? What keeps your clients coming back? #BusinessGrowth #HarvestSeason #FallBusiness #ClientExperience #StandOut #FaithAndBusiness
