USA is dominating the global CCS market. With the highest number of projects both operational and in development. 260 out of 564. Most of these capture CO₂ from ethanol facilities in the Midwest, with natural gas and hydrogen production following suit, especially in Texas. What the three processes have in common is a purer CO₂ stream that keeps capture costs lower. #CCS #climatetech #Energytech

The Open Hydrogen Initiative has released the first iteration of its open-source toolkit for estimating the carbon intensity of hydrogen at the facility level. GTI Energy and S&P Global Commodity Insights co-developed the tool with the help of global industry stakeholders. The toolkit should help the industry replace the color-coded labels with facility-specific emissions data. That, in turn, should enable the trade of hydrogen based on carbon intensity as a specific attribute, in much the same way that oil is priced and sold according to its sulfur content. #hydrogen #lowemissionhydrogen https://lnkd.in/dXrfPymm

#MethaneSteamReforming (SMR) Currently, the process responsible for most of the hydrogen produced industrially is steam methane reforming. The process incurs carbon dioxide emissions of approximately 7 kg of carbon dioxide per kg of hydrogen produced, and it is the source of nearly 3% of the global industrial sector's CO2 emissions. In steam methane reforming, the chemical energy stored in methane is converted to another chemical energy, hydrogen. The two main reactions that occur in steam methane reforming follow: CH4(g)+H2O(g)→CO(g)+3H2(g) CO(g)+H2O(g)→CO2(g)+H2(g) #SteamMethaneReforming #Hydrogenproduction

Let's talk about Hydrogen #green The most common method of producing hydrogen on an industrial scale is through Steam Methane Reforming (SMR). With natural gas as its building blocks, hydrogen derived through this method has questionable green credentials, hence the grey hydrogen moniker. However, green hydrogen is on the rise. With the maturing of electrolysis technology and the supportive policy for the production of green hydrogen, it has an important part to play in the clean energy mix. #mythbusting #hydrogen #production #cleanenergytechnologies #facts #fuelcells #electrolysis #green #solutions
