The last two days at the UN Global Compact Network Australia UNiting Business event left way too many ideas and reflections to sum them up fairly - but an unfair summary would highlight that: • There’s never been a better time to be a sustainability professional - markets, policy makers, insurers, investors, everyone has their eyes on companies to up their sustainability performance. • There’s never been a worse time to be a sustainability professional - it was sobering to hear most of those in the room feel or are close to burnout. It’s a lot. We might be well past the best time to effectively tackle our biggest sustainability crises - but the urgency remains. It’s a balancing act where, while we should remain ambitious, as Brambles’s CEO put it, we can’t afford to be zealots. A great recent publication from Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) gives a very insightful hint in this direction: “it’s time to move on from trying to put ‘sustainability thinking’ into business and instead start putting ‘business thinking’ into sustainability”. https://lnkd.in/g4vtpnHG Were you there? What did you think? Thanks to Kate Dundas Susan Mizrahi, GAICD Greta Korthaus and everyone at UNGC Network Australia for a brilliant two days!
