🌿 Sustainability is no longer a peripheral issue – it’s becoming central to business strategy and operations. In a recent Mumbrella interview, Dan Wilcock, Head of Sustainable Governance at the UN Global Compact Network Australia (UNGCNA), and Sue Allchurch, Chief of Outreach and Engagement at the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), shared their insights on empowering businesses to adopt sustainability practices. ▪ Sue underscored the importance of connecting businesses to the Ten Principles of the UNGC in the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption — to drive meaningful, measurable action that contributes to a more sustainable and responsible future. ▪ Dan highlighted the role of industry associations in guiding companies through emerging issues, such as greenwashing, while advocating for a collective voice towards transparency and accountability in sustainability communications. ▪ Due to the strong demand for the greenwashing course, the UNGCNA has successfully run four cohorts this year. The course will return in 2025, allowing more professionals to navigate sustainability with confidence and credibility. ➡️ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gy2TnRsC ➡️ Learn more about our greenwashing course: https://lnkd.in/gRWF2aXD

Amazing! Pennon Group plc has now become a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The UN Global Compact (UNGC) is the largest global corporate sustainability initiative and forms the basis of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Joining the UN Global Compact demonstrates Pennon Group's leading commitment to the below listed principles, and reinforces our dedication to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Ten (10) Principles of the United Nations Global Compact are derived from: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Human Rights Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses. Labour Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour; Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. Environment Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies. Anti-Corruption Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
