Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services by President-elect Donald Trump presents a grave threat to the health and well-being of Americans. This decision risks dismantling our critical health infrastructure and undermining public health efforts that countless lives depend on. Now, more than ever, we must stand firm in our mission to protect and advance equitable health outcomes for all. With so much riding on this election, we need to talk about the garbage within mental healthcare. It’s a mess that forces too many people to endure outdated, degrading interventions—and we can and should demand better. What am I tossing out? 🗑 Diagnosis without humanity: Labels like “oppositional” and “defiant” are too often applied to children of color, especially Black youth, without any context of systemic racism or trauma, reinforcing harmful bias. 🗑 The resilience myth: We shouldn’t ask people to “be resilient” against systems built to harm them. Instead of placing the burden on individuals, it’s time we hold these systems accountable. 🗑 Punitive crisis responses: From excessive restraints to automatic police involvement, responses to mental health crises still punish rather than support. Clients deserve access to safer, compassionate alternatives. People deserve healthcare that truly respects their dignity and humanity. This election is a powerful reminder of our responsibility to keep demanding better policies, better care, and a stronger voice in the systems impacting our lives. What’s one harmful practice you’d throw out? Tell me below! Thanks Meow Wolf for the fun ride! #TakingOutTheTrash #Election2024 #HealthcareTransformation #AntiracistMentalHealth #HealthcareReform

Structural oppression – both social and economic – has measurable effects on individual people’s health outcomes, and therefore on the collective public health challenges that shape society for everyone." #socialjustice #economicjustice #weathering
